Mark, you mean here the percent range of microfarad accuracy? Yes? I have never heard this before. My impression has always been that they simply moved manufacture to China and consequently changed the color. Are you saying that they are still manufacturing the yellow ones?
I did look at an old yellow cap and a new white one, they are both marked 10%, FWIW.
And actually, again FWIW, I just looked at the CDE website and realize they have discontinued the 6PS OD without a drum roll. Currently the only OD polyester caps they offer are the 225 and the 418.

Most people stall out when fixing a mistake that they've made. Why?
And rp, I do think they are different sonically. Another thing, physically they are smaller than the former yellow versions as you compare the same values. Try swapping one of these out for something else, (polyester or polypropylene film) I think it's pretty hard to miss what these caps are doing (or not doing) for the circuit.

I'm sure I'm going to miss 6PSs, bummer, they were nice to have. The day is nigh when us tube amp bums will be forced to go all boutique for parts - or just stop giving a crap and just use whatever's at hand.
Bet now that they are extinct they become a cult wonder cap
Steve has the 716 and the 715 listed - polypropylene both. I see no listing for the 6PS Polyester cap there. ?
But I do know that CE has some still. My source is CDE.com, Cornell Dublier. Look up the film caps, polyester, and you will see the lack of the 6PS cap. If you search for it on the site, it will bring up a page that shows how many pieces are available, sitting with their suppliers. I think there is one line showing 500+ pieces somewhere. They are gone.

What amazes me is the caps have Fender printed on them. Normally Fender would attack like a rabid dog for unauthorized use of the Fender name. Maybe there is a royalty charge for using the name or Steve's found a loop hole.

Check out the CDE DMT series. I dig em, maybe a little smoother texture to the sound than the 6ps all things being equal.

Typically companies guard trademark to prevent having their brand debased by uncontrolled inferior product. If I was Fender I wouldn't sell any "tone" product like caps or speakers with my name on them except through the service dept. Maybe they figure the silly price will limit over use though it might actually relegate them to the sophomore crowd w/ lots of bad amps and negative posts. Though IME most people aren't very discerning and are enthused and happy the more money they blow, hence all the hype and thrills about everything on the internet. Fender prolly figures they can't loose.
Unless unequivocal word becomes that these are the rolled up voice of God, I'd be kind of embarrassed to fill my amp up with those Fender caps, as I am w/ Sozo or Jupiter - too desperate an attempt for tone, if you know what I mean. But like I said the time is nigh. I'll prolly try some Jupiters soon.
I like 225 as much as 6PS, also smoother less bright, but I knew what 6PS would give me so it was a nice tweak tool to have. They were long too for ptp work.
