I agree, the sound quality was very poor. Too compressed and the bottom end was missing. I would hope for a higher quality clip. We need Geetarpicker - Glen to run one through it's paces.

I can agree with tubes make a huge difference, and voicing, and even that an amp should be as good as it's going to get when it leaves the shop for $5000.... and even the New production tubes causing the problem to a point. However the Winged =C= were used in 80's Groove tubes and half of the TW's Ken built had Groove tubes as OEM parts. The Liverpool was running Ei EL84 which again were some of the brands that came stock in from Ken. It's possible those tubes used were not flattering in the TW circuit. Then I have to ask the question... Why wouldn't you use NOS tubes in the studio were your tone can actually be heard? Live sure.. who cares, between the wash of the room and the crowd it's a waste of money.

I would have to hear the amps in person the way they were intended to sound before I can pass judgement, but if this was the selling demo. At $5000 I have heard a lot of amps that sounded more toneful, responsive, and articulate for less.

My understanding is that his name is John Mark and was an aide to and/or protege of Ken Fischer. I'm just going off Internet Lore/Hearsay though. Others may correct/clarify/elaborate.

Basically you are correct, JM helped Ken build amps for a while when he was back ordered or sick. However he was to slow to keep up and drove the cost of the build past where Ken wanted to / or could afford to sell them.

Ken still tweaked and voiced every amp JM touched before it went out to a client.

To the best of my knowledge Ken did not teach JM how to voice the amps, If he did, JM was not able to pickup on how to do it. Ken did say several times he tried to teach family members how to voice the amps but it never worked out. It was an art form that went to his grave. No one else heard the final vision the way Ken did.

Had someone been able to voice the amps other then KF I feel strongly that Trainwreck Circuits would have continued on in his absence much sooner and the spearhead campaign of no one but Ken can build an Trainwreck wouldnt have been such a heavy focal point.

Dave Funk also did builds for Ken, I wonder what his thought is with JM's involvement in all of this.....

Ok just my opinion so dont chase me down with pitch fork.

The amps sound ok but lack the magic or voodoo of ken's TW's which could be for several reasons. I dont believe it's just the tubes but several other factors. In GK's trainwreck he used groovetube EL34M's and some NOS preamp tube but the magic is there.

Tuning a amp is a individual and personal touch that no two builders are alike. You can play like your favorite guitar hero but you there is only one real deal. This does not mean you can't cant build a incredible TW that even ken would of approved of but dont claim to be his second coming.

The new production are far from it and would even go to the extreme of saying mine sound better. At the same time every TW is not magic sometimes no matter how hard you try.

Just to be clear.....this is what I am not hearing from the New production trainwreck, Its the transparency of the characteristics of the guitar that add the flavor to the overall TW tone.

Anyone agree ?

I think if you search [IIRC] the gear page. This clip was donwloadable so it didn't have the you tube compression or any other artifacts etc. People waited for the promised clips for a while.
This was supposed to be the studio recorded clip, using all the correct stuff.

http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showth ... wreck+clip

You can also see what others thought and posted. This was supposed to be no excuses and the end of all the talk, for the other clips that people made of their JM built amps waiting to hear how the "New" wrecks sounded built by JM. So no one could have excuses like, the recording gear they used wasn't that good,or the guitar,or the player.

I thought it was weird that the guy playing sat about 1 1/2 feet from the speaker. The amp should have went into instant sustain.
Most can only comment on what they see or hear.
I know i have heard similar clips and know the amps sound better than what was recorded.
I think or my opinion, like most is the recording did not turn out that good.
I also think some of the other recordings of the "new" JM built amps sound better than this studio version. And i have also heard clips of clones that sound much better. But again this is only my opinion.

And my last thought, and probably thousands of others is to let Glen record or play the amp and get his thoughts. The things are not only what you hear, but how well it responds to the playing. Only a few people i know, are experts on that subject.

We guitar players are a fickle lot. We are always looking for the holy grail and even if we got it, we'd probably think well its good, but maybe there's something that sounds better out there. Just an opinion but if your amp inspires you to play to and over your ability, you might just have the best your going to have. The grass is always greener as they say. Just an opinion of course, but the older I get the more I believe it. Good luck to all in your quest and happy holidays! :D

shouldn't it be about 1/2 that? You can still purchase a new one, they don't sound as good as the hype, and it's $2500 more then new. wait or no wait it's no where near a $7500 amplifier.

To put it in perspective that is 10 amps worth of parts.
