I believe I have a 100 Pf in there right now. Not a huge difference but it somehow thickens things a just a little bit to my ears.
I have noticed in these amps that small component value changes make audible differences while in other amps sometimes not so much.

I should really open up the amp and document everything
It is undoubtedly a Liverpool still but some small tweaks over the years made it friendlier to my needs

.........Now where did I put it?

500 for me. Seems about right. I have a couple of polystyrene caps left. I may switch it to smooth it out just a tad.

I see that I used a 50pf treble cap on my previous build.

Stripped the amp down last night drilled pot holes for plastic isolation insert and installed new Alpha pots with grounding tap and ground buss. Need to wait for new faceplate and cab to finish controls.

Stripped all the wiring and will need to order a new tranny set (Pacific) in future. I notice right away that previously I had used the wrong style of EL84 tube sockets, I used the shielded base type. So those will be cleaned up and new sockets added.

Fun project and I will built the amp a whole lot better then I did in 2008

I've got thoughts about building an all Edcor Liverpool. Their output tranny has proved out very well in an Express and I would like build a pool where I keep things standard except for the transformer set.

Edcor transformers are very high quality and I have no problem using them either.

I just started a new topic but guess I should have read this first! I just modded my 1/2 power liverpool to use 2 6v6's instead of the el84's and added a vvr. I love it so far. Like the tone a bunch better. A little darker and creamier sounding and less glassy and fizzy. 500pf cap in the eq and unbypassed cathode. seems to sound better to me. Sometimes I run everything at 12 oclock with the bright switch on. Sometimes I run the volume at around 3 with the bright switch off and 7 - 4 - 8 on the eq and presence at 8 . sounds sweet and cleanish . I use a tube boost pedal in front and it barks nicley when needed. Play everything from swingy blues to hard rock in a low C open slide tuning. Love this amp. Really love it with the new mods. Just finished them today!

Would the change to 6V6 be considered the Liverpool Octal or does that amp use octal preamps like Inger?

EL84's naturally have a very high or crisp top end. Making them almost hard to just listen to but they really work well to cut in a heavy mix. Which is something TW's seem to have in common then sound good on thier own but really excel in the mix. They are voiced to sit in the pocket and not clutter the mix.

I would have to guess its the octal preamp thing. I think mine is just more of a bastardized monsterpool thing... and I agree that they cut like a razor through any mix. Even my single ended amps with wreck preamps cut through everything.

Hi Markusv
if possible I would love to see how your tweaks are implemented especially the parallel V1..trying to wrap my head around this...I have Gibsonman63 schem of it.
Going over old builds I'm on a 2 el84 Liverpool style at the moment.
Sounds good but the hiss and noise level seems a bit high. Running a 5751 in V1...thinking about rewiring with stranded. Wondering if V1 parallel could also help, any info is appreciated

I'm a believer on paralleling V1. My Liverpool has substantially more gain than my Express and less hum and hiss at the same time.

I used solid core wire in both builds.

Would the parrallel'd V1 be the Liverpool special? They are said to have the qualities that you mentioned.
