Looks like the "Trainwreck" logo has disappeared from the site, although the text still states the amp will ship with it.

He also now has "Trainwreck" in his disclaimer.

I would suspect Stu-Daddy has a friend on TAG or he himself is a member. Interesting history repairing since 1989 and located in Michigan.

I need to get a motor home and road trip.

This Kind of pisses me off

Stu-Daddy here,
Sorry folks my web site guy posted pics of my personal amps by mistake while my web site was being updated.
To be sure I don't sell cloned amps with the original Logos.
I apologize and I'm sorry if it offended anyone.
Again the amps in question are my personal amps and not for sale.

Thanks for removing them.

As far as having them on your personal amps, we are not immortal.
In other words, when you no longer possess these amps, someone else will and the logo is there to confuse people or even defraud them if later sold.

I received a link to an interesting article on RE (Reverse Engineering) in my technical email (spam) today.

http://www.medicalelectronicsdesign.com ... p-part-iii

Cloning HW still is a gray area where the courts are yet to fully sort out what is legal/ethical.

It is clear that RE is acceptable as a design tool where a new product is designed to be compatible with a competitor product.

Whether it is legal to actually clone a competitor product is not completely clear, although the second bullet indicates it is not ethical (laudable) and illudes to it not being legal.

At least when applied to ICs, the RE must be used to add a "new original" feature to the REd part, and cloning is not allowed for commercial purpose.

Lately I've been wondering how IC designers reverse engineer somebody elses silicon. I've been working with some low noise instrumentation amplifiers where one is the newer replacement for the other (namely the AD620 and INA129). I was just sort of curious how TI managed to squeeze more bandwidth and lower noise into the same package without having the schematics handed over from ADI..

Lately I've been wondering how IC designers reverse engineer somebody elses silicon.
There are companies that do nothing but RE devices. They tediously identify all components on the top layer and make a schematic. Then remove the that layer and move on to the next, etc... It is very tedious work, but many of these companies are VERY good at it.

Why do you think the schematic was handed over? It could have been reverse engineered or it could have been a completely new design. There are alot of talented analog IC designers that are capable of designing a better part. It could be easy or difficult depending on how hard the original design was pushed. Also, we can always move to another technology CMOS vs Bipolar, spend more current, increase the die size, etc... Bandwidth and lower noise can almost always be overcome with better design/tradeoffs. BTW, the package is normally very low on the list of issues in cases like this, although it is an issue mostly related to bond wire inductance.
