So if you don't need to use MyTone, then how would an ordinary punter (like the OP for instance) order a Scumback-spec speaker from Weber?
You'd have to spec it properly first.
And where does the fabric softener hint come into it, unless you're hinting that that's what Weber will do before they deliver the speaker.
Ted said that softening the cone was part of the process.

So this isn't really an alternative for the OP then; it's just a chance for you to have a dig at Jim's product.

Or are you going to give us some specs so that you can present a viable alternative to purchasing a Scumback?

A dig? I wrote "Scumbacks are Weber OEM models. Really nice speakers but IMO overpriced."

You've forgotten the magic word.

Well you're certainly entitled to your opinion, your inuendo, your hints/jabs and all that good stuff, too.

But you still don't know what you're talking about, nor have the slightest clue on how to spec a Scumback. But just to give you a chance, please by all means, list the EXACT parts you would use, oh knowledgeable one!

(This should be good!) I await your definitive, no bullshit, no dodging the question at all reply.

Hey, just curious, what does FYL stand for "F**k Your Logic', or something equally high brow and IQ worthy?

Aww, never mind you basically said I'm lying to people or defrauding them. Seems you can dish it out but not take it, huh? Gee, I'm sorry. Give me a minute, I know I have my surprised face here somewhere, let me go find it and put it on.

Ok, how about this?

Let's see, how about if I'm polite about it. Please FYL, tell all of us how you'd spec a speaker from Weber VST that matches or exceeds the Scumbacks. Come on, pretty please, I'd really like to know.

And uh, better read up on what your using for words to prove your points/posts/drivel/whatever... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ad_hominem

Wow! Such vitriol over someone noting that Scumbacks are manufactured by Weber. That's no secret, but there is obviously some secret sauce in Jim's recipe. Whether that is snuggle, bounce, or some other fabric softener used to soften the cone; some special doping compound, or whatever, that's all between Jim and Weber.

Frankly, this all is really tiresome for most of us here. Take your argument private as this is not productive at all. If you want to take jabs at each other, do it elsewhere.

Remember, opinions are like assholes. Everyone has one and they're usually full of shit  (meant as humor  ).

Now that's funny! Of course all opinions are like a##holes, but I've never actually read the second part of your statement before. So graphic; talk about that brown sound. Funny stuff. I must be tired and ready to go home for the day.

It is tiresome. I've dealt with this common misconception for years, and even though Ted stated publicly that they're different, there's always some conspiracy theory guy who thinks he knows more than the maker/designer/manufacturer and is willing to back himself into a corner when challenged, as we saw unfold here.

Jim,

Understandably so, but please do not bring the argument to the forefront of the forum. There is a PM function where you can send the "misinformed" a message to clear up all the details. I think I can speak for most here that we could care less about your disagreement with another forum member. Take it private in the future please as no one wants to smell others' dirty laundry.

Got your point, dartanion, but the other part of the problem is allowing posts of misinformation to go unanswered and left to stand unchallenged as though it were true. Of course, I'm certain that FYL "thinks" he knows better than Ted or I, which is patently untrue. While I would prefer not to have to make these kinds of posts to correct this type of misinformation, unless there is more attentive moderation, all it amounts to is slander on a public forum, based on opinion and hearsay.

In a perfect world people wouldn't post about subjects they don't have the facts to support. A PM wouldn't have addressed that, and it's obvious FYL threw the gauntlet down in spite of not having sufficient facts to back his posts.

I know I have better things to do than correct the ignorant, but sometimes it has to be done in the manner in which the ignorance was displayed.

Jim

I don't have any experience with your speakers but I've heard great reviews about them. Anyway I think that there's no misconceptions about the fact that you offer a diferent product since your speakers are recreations of the pulsonic 003 and 014 cones. If anyone goes to the Weber speakers website and read about the C1225 plus prerola treatment which I think is the closest offer to your product they can read that is based on the Kurt Mueller cones which might be the first 1777....I know you are the expert but...am I wrong? therefore is clear that there will be a little diference between your speakers and Weber's closest match. At least it is for me.... So more than other people's opinions I like to read the info provided by the manufacturer.
