OK, it's late (for me)... Why no bias tap? Are you going cathode bias?

I see bias test points on the back panel so I'm thinking that's not the case. What am I missing (besides sleep)?
Zippy, Mark is just tapping voltage off an HT secondary and then putting a fat resistor in line to tame it down to bias voltage levels. Similar to the way it's done in the 2xEL34 Expresses.

Gotcha. Thanks.

Any advantage to that over a dedicated bias winding?

I know i am way to late on this thread but i am curious to how the different builds went on this 80 watt express? I am glad i found this because i wanted a express but 40 watts is not loud enough. I am going to get someone to build this from me. Can't wait to hear this amp. Is there any clips out there? or any photos of builds? Any input would be much appreciated. And thanks for making this amp!

Cheers!

Allynmey did great but my 80W Express was uncontrollable so I made it into a Rocket with reverb.

Thanks for dragging this up. You should see what I decided to do to my uhoh'd Majors.

.. and you will! Sort of soon if I can just get a couple other tings out da way.

Uncontrollable? so this means it's not an easy amp to make i guess?

Well if people think the regular Express is hard to control with lead dress try 80 watts.

Yeah I am kind of a glutten for punishment.

I think Richie or Dana, maybe both did a 100w build once.

Mark,

As prolific and accomplished a builder as you are, I'm thinking you might have had a bad OT or something on your 80W Wreck build.
