redshark - Yes, the Genelex are very good. Beautiful what they do to gtr tone. That said, it is pretty hard to just burn up the hours on a $300 set of tubes. So I figure they are some kinda backup thing that will be used for recording something special. Eh, does this make any sense? Don't say 'yes' because it will mean that you are as twisted as me on the subject.

But I will check out the Gold Lions now and see what is up with them. Frankly, there are so many elements that can go into the 'PERFECT TONE' it is hard to focus on the power tubes, know what I mean? Your amp could be shite and the best set of tubes won't do you any good. But if you did get the amp together, and you had the gtr together, and you had the right speakers, and you could play - well, then power tubes would be important maybe. ....Well then there's that great original song and a killer vocal - definitely more important to the general public than any frickin' gtr solo. Ah, but we are gtr players.

Rooster, I have a matched pair of real tungsol 5881 (made in the 50's) that I just use for special ocasions in my 5F4 clone. I love the tone of those power tubes and that is why I rather keep them aside.
I normally run that amp with sylvania 6L6's which make the amp louder but the top end is not as warm as when i use the tungsols.
So, YES I'm as twisted as you are and probably as twisted as a few other guitar players that make good tone an addiction.
That is why I will start my first express clone. Wish me luck on that.
Is your KT66 genalex a matched pair? That is the reason why I never pulled the trigger on a pair of those, not being sure how close they were.
The heyboer that I use on my jtm45 i got it at mojotone and is the jtm45 cloned output transformer. That is all I remember.

Those Pacific Schematics are the ones I got from Allynmey and matched the Pacific Transformer set I bought from Allyn so you would need to clarify any questions with Allyn.

Also Pacific said these are the correct ones, marked K&M?

redshark - OK, then that is a likely on the 7500 ohm primary. As the match of the Genelex, yes, 2 ma out. But don't get too hung up on that matching stuff. So many of the things recorded in the 60's - early 70's, never dealt with such things. I mean, we all sit around with our little measuring devices and think we understand something, but then Jimmy Page plugs into a fuzz pedal and a Supro with tubes that are in no way balanced and sets our pants on fire. Well, I'm just saying, use your head, sure, but use your ears, too. Also, I think that most of the sellers that I see selling something like a Genelex KT66 can get pretty close. They are definitely worth owning if you are into the Bluesbreaker thing, a great sounding tube.

Oh, and lastly, I actually had two that were 6 mas out originally, and swapped one with a friend who had one closer to one of mine, 2 mas out. Did the amp sound any different? Ha, I told myself it did but if it did it was minimal...

Well my ear is alright I guess but I can hear diferences. I still believe that a matched set is better than a not matched.
I guess in the future i will try a pair of original KT66's. I just think now is a lot of money but if you try the gold lion reissues then you can tell me how diferent they are from the real thing. They are probably closer than you think.
I like the bluesbreaker thing a lot. I think that when you are not talking about something so unique like a TW or Dumble the best amp design ever was the bassman or JTM45 (same circuit).
I think that circuit has the best sound and you can cover lots of styles with it.
