express question

Post by beaulieu »

Im thinking of building an Express amp. Im new to the TW amp so where do you find TW Transformers or Trannies best suited to these amps?? (Im guessing theres no "REAL" TW trannies to be had!!Also what other parts are kinda "Manditory" for a TrainWreck amp? Example...Mustard caps are for a Vintage Marshall. So what parts really matter in a TrainWreck amp that need to be a certain brand?? Thanks Mark

The Trainwreck Files section has a complete bill of materials, layout and a verified schematic which will definitely help you. Don't waste your time with the Blue Guitar schematics as they were based on second-hand information, interpretation and some guesswork.

PVC series caps are the way to go in an Express, and those who start with something different usually come round to that way of thinking, so you may as well start on the right track.

For transformers you want either the Toneslut vintage series transformers (www.toneslut.com) by Heyboer, or the Pacific ones if you can get them. Either of these will make you a happy camper.

Allyn may still have a set of the Pacifics available, see:

Oh, and don't overlook the importance of a set of NOS Siemens EL34s and NOS Tungsrams for the pres. Best have a load on hand as these are a real pig to tube, especially V1.
