the cornels i got from newark have that funny little m logo on them. i think they are the real deal. anybody able to find the actual mallory? it was only 20 years ago. they must be around somewhere. how bout one of those obsolete electronics places, they should be able to find them. maybe its not worth the trouble.

FYI I'm selling off some original NOS PVC612 caps, the ones with the small M. These are actual .02s not .022s. Check out the classifieds here on this board. GK

Yep, I just checked. They show the PVC612 "available", but only with a minimum 300 piece order! That was what I ran into when I got my batch of them a couple years back, actually having to buy a lot of them to get them even then. Did you get .02s or .022s recently? GK

Any one interested in a bulk buy on these .02 caps from Newark? I don't quite need 300 but... Please no onesies or twosies.

This search engine comes up with a few places stocking them.
Might be worth checking into.

When I investigated a couple years ago many dealers quoted them as "in stock". When I actually called and checked countless places what I found was they could get them, but only with a 300 piece order. My gut feeling is these caps aren't exactly discontinued, it's just that it takes a minimum order to get the factory to dish any out. That said, perhaps the writing is on the wall that these will be totally phased out. I bought up close to 300 a couple years ago, and split them with a friend. I'm keeping a few and putting the rest up in the classified section here. The ones I have are the actual .02s by the way, which have been very hard to find for a while now but it appears perhaps even the .022s are gone now, short of 300 piece orders?

Anyway, like I said if anyone needs some .02s I'm selling them at a marginal profit just to cover my time and effort. Thanks! GK

i guess the obvious question is can you tell the difference in tone between the .02 and .022?

Probably not, but heck when I built my pair of clones I went to the effort to find them. Still on my capacitance meter the .02s read about .021, where the .022s read about .023 so neither seem true on .02s or perhaps my meter is off. That said, it appears even the .022s are getting harder to locate.

Is this a value/voltage that does not get much demand, outside of the amp building community?

That's my bet. Plus I don't think many other amp builders used them either, usually probably using cheaper type orange drops IF they were going with orange drops at all. It will probably make these caps hard to find in the years to come. Mustard caps for example were used by quite a number of companies, and Marshall in itself probably kept the order list going pretty good. You can still find those to this day but not for cheap that's for darn sure.
