I found this place after doing some research on the TW amps and hearing some Komet clips. I've only heard a few TW clips but they've got me really curious. I love the liquid sustain and huge woody tone they get. I used to think I wanted another 50 watt Marshall but I think this is the better way to go.
I've built a 100 watt metroamp plexi clone from scratch and installed point to point metroamp boards in a 1987x 50 watt plexi reissue, a '74 Superlead, and a 2002 SLP reissue.
I'm pretty much a "follow the numbers" kind of guy so I might have a lot of question in the "where does this wire go" variety.
Anyways, I've looked through all the posts and found info on the Express circuits, some power supply diagrams and some board layouts. The only thing I'm not positive about is the wiring.
So I've got a couple of specific questions ... what kind of coupling caps were originally used and what types of resistors were used. I see that the filter caps were Mallory.
Hey, I'm new here and thinking about building a TW!

gnugear,
First off welcome to the board. I've seen your postings on the Metro board and at the Plexi Palace and you are a welcomed addition to the Twreck Page board!
As I mentioned over at the Metro board, you were one of the people that got me interested in building a Metro Plexi clone.
As for your questions, I'll let some of the other guys answer. IIRC the resistors are carbon film. Not sure on the coupling caps. You are correct about the Mallory caps in the power supply.

gnugear, nice to see you here (I've seen you at the plexi palace BBS). Of the TW pics I've seen they look to have orange drops in the pre (coupling and EQ). I've seen some big brown ones in the PI (100nF), but I don't know what kind they are (they look like orange drops but they are brown). Anyone know who manufactured these brown ones?

Thanks for the welcome!
Omar, your plexi build was KILLER!!
I couldn't believe how clean the install was. I'm extremely jealous and actually want to rewire one of my amps now!
I saw those brown caps too and thought they looked like "brown" drops. I've never seen any like that in person though.
I've gone through a number of caps in my Marshall builds ... Mustards, soZos, Orange Drops, Mallory, Solen, and AuraCap. I've heard that the TW amps are bright and that's certainly what I've noticed with Orange drops.

Re: Hey, I'm new here and thinking about building a TW!
gnugear - Thanks for the kind words! I think I remember seeing some pics of your work on you plexi and the board you installed and your work looked good. I wouldn't rewire it unless there was a problem.
Those brown caps also have me wondering. I haven't seen caps like that before. I used Mallory 150's in my TW clone. They are a bit dark and I think this helps tame the high end a bit.

Re: Hey, I'm new here and thinking about building a TW!
Yeah, I hear the TWs are bright, but I'd rather tame it with component brands rather than changing values. I'm in love with the Dale/Vishay resistors and think they have a darker overall tone (in a good way).
