newbie querstion: sorry if it's stupid! & tia
hey guys, cool forum. i keep seeing the names "kelly" & "francesca" & the like, but don't see them referred to on the many different schematics. (a1a,a1b, etc) can you guys steer me a bit? thanks again & rock on.

On this forum in the Trainwrech Files section, you should be able to find pictures of Francesca, and a layout and schematic for Kelly. Unfortunately, they seem to be offline at the moment. Maybe our host will see this and fix that situation soon.

thanks sliberty, i was mainly wondering what the differences were in all these "versions"

Hi,
well, from my understanding, Ken Fischer customized each amp specifically for a client. Instead of giving the amps serial numbers, he simply named them with a female name.
Cheers,
Stephane.

I think you will find that Kelly is VERY similar to version a1a. As Stephane points out, Ken would sometimes tweak values for a particular build. Each amp he made probably started out almost the same (if not exactly the same), but was then altered to the customer's taste, and to accomodate any variances in components that made up that particular amp.
Since Kelly seems to be fairly well documented, it is the one I am following in my build. But tweaks may follow I suppose.

There are some differences between the Kelly schematic and the Francesca build.sliberty wrote: Since Kelly seems to be fairly well documented, it is the one I am following in my build. But tweaks may follow I suppose.
The big one is the bias pot connection. It should be at the junction of the 15k, 47k, and 10uf/100v components; not at the 47k and 20uf/600v component junction.
Also, the 470k 3w resistor is 2x100k resistors in series.
