express tubes and airbrake
hello, can anyone give me some info on a few things? how does using 6v6 tubes effect the tone on an express/ I found a copy of the express manual ( I can't find it again. can anyone help with that?) and it said the amp will run at 22 watts with 6v6 tubes. I am looking for ways to lower the volume on it without an attenuator. these tube should help, ut what about an air brake? do they really hurt the tone or just slightly alter it. i suppose that depends on the setting. I have also read about power scaling. anyone with first hand experience? I want to be able to play it in my house with out having the neighbors call the cops. looking for the best method possible. Any help will be greatly appreciated
Re: express tubes and airbrake
the express is not a quiet amp and only gets sweeter the louder it can sing ( to a point ) then your rock side comes out and your hair grows longer faster and.... Yes you can run the 6V6! yes it changes the tone! think marshall (EL34) Fender (6V6) without an A/B test that's the easiest way to bulk explain the dif.
The airbrake... Sort of a pillow and can put strain on the OT when miss matched or ran very hard... The amp turned to "11" on all knobs then to the air brake holding back all that volume so you can play in your baby's nursery as they knap.... Oh and they get HOT!!!! Blister hot!!!!
I would suggest... Choosing the tubes you like the voicing of and just living with the fact you can't open it wide open. but when you can let it sing you'll love it even more. If you really have to have that wide open rock crunch of total tube saturated distortion. buy or build a 2w or less amp for home. or an iso cab.
sorry but no answer is the perfect answer... Or just get cooler neighbors!!!
