Question regarding wiring

Hello everybody,

Well, I'm finally getting somewhere with my Express clone, got off on a rocky start when I miss-drilled one hole for the PT leads but I think it should not matter too much. Nonetheless I'd like some input on the few accompanying pictures. Just to make sure I'm really making the best of the situation or if any of you think I should re-drill the hole and re-position the PT.

I could be wrong but it really wouldn't matter so much on a Rocket build as it would with the Liverpool but I will leave that up to the experts out there.

Never mind I see this is an Express build not a Rocket build my mistake!

Paul,
I think you may have to turn it 180 degrees to get the wire out by the edge of the chassis.

From your picture you will be right under the cap stack.

See picture small red circles are the transformer screws and the big circle is about where your wires are now.

Looking again, I see you have another set of wires to the left.
Looks like primary wires?????
It would be easier to deal with 2 wires by the cap stack instead of the bundle of output wires.
Not a lot of room under there.

Hey Gary,

I know, I already stated I should have drilled the 'larger' hole for the large bundle on the other side, it's tricky but I should be able to get the capstack in place anyway. The other little bundle coming out the other side is my PT primary of which I jumpered two lines and isolated them to make 240V.

Either way, there is a standoff next to the small hole near the edge of the chassis, so re-drilling the larger hole on that side is a no no I think.

What I really wanted to know if it is gonna pose any 'sonical' problems.

Paul,

K, I don't think you will have any issues in that regard.

The main thing being the orientation of the transformer cores (90deg. to each other) which you have correct.

Just get a twist on your wires (there are a lot of pictures posted to help ya) and if you get a squeal switch the plate wires.

You should be OK.

No worries, I'm wiring up the heaters at the moment and afterwards I'll start lining up the grounding scheme to the corner under the powercord...

For the actual testing I've got a mate who builds and designs loads of 'bass' amps all the time, but he's a guitar amp tech as well. He's more into solid state though...argh...I gotta admit though that some of his stuff is pretty good...he builds these mini marshall heads that can pump out a volume that'll make you blow your mind...I wonder if he could come up with a head like that TW style.

Depending on the caps you choose, I don't think you will have a problem with your tranny orientation. You could also go with a couple of the JJ cap cans (Requires more holes) if you run into problems with clearance. I have used them on a couple of amps and can tell no sonic difference to my old ears. If you go with an Illinois cap, they are physically smaller and shoud give you the space you need without sacrificing tone.

Hi Dana,

I've got the larger Sprague Atom series...I was kinda worried about heat issues between the tranny leads and the caps. But as long as I got enough space to manoeuver around it all it won't matter much. Thanks for all your input people.
