tried it in pentode mode and it's way to mean without any form of negative feedback. I like the UL taps much better. Seems the bass is to overpowering either way. I may end up just turning this thing into a 2 hole liverpool with a tube rectifier and a choke.

I am curious, is there a Heyboer for the Half power Rocket? I spose we need something with an 8K primary and 4-8-16 output. I'd appreciate a part number if any knows of it.

I have found a nice 245-0-245 150mA Power Tranny that should be right on the money for two EL84's. Would be nice to compliment that with a good Output -- I agree with Curbdog, the Heyboer really sounds great in the Rocket!

thanks,

rj

Curb, I'm not sure if it's smart for me to mention this publicly, but I have a "Transformer Problem".... I just can't stop buying them! This particular tranny was custom wound - too much $$$ for what it is. I'll suggest the Edcor 275-0-275 instead, although it doesn't have a 5V tap so no tube rectifier, but the price is good. http://www.edcorusa.com/products/transf ... wr106.html

I get most of my transformers from either Ebay or a couple different government surplus vendors also here in New Mexico... I occasionally find tube good amp trannies and the filament transformer selection is huge.

I'll post a picture from the shelves of the local surplus place. If you see anything you need let me know and I'll snag it. They have tubes, capacitors, wire, resistors... I always leave there with an empty wallet. It's really a chaotic mess but if you have time to sort for yourself, it's usually a bargain.

use the dynaco z565 for a 2-el84 rocket. you can get current production from triode (i think lenco winds these for them along with their other stuff).
heyboer doesn't have one of these on file (i was gonna send them one last yr for a teardown and have a batch made because i liked them quite a bit) but the winding pattern for all the dynaco stuff is essentially the same (or so i've been told by some hifi experts) so i decided to save my old trannie from the fate since it was still good. you could simply get heyboer to just make a trannie with the a470 pattern but on the smaller lam dimension/core (lam dimensions would be 3" x 2 1/2" with a 1 1/2" stack thickness; use m19/26ga like the a470 variants i had made for the rocket). you can have him nix the ul taps (i did) unless you want 'em----i just end up popping the bell end off and flush cutting them to the coil anyway). rh

I have completed a mini-Rocket ! I used the Dynaclone Z565 -48 output transformer, and a 235-0-235 Heboer PT with a 12v filament wiring, and a solid state rectifier. We seem to finish these amps on Sunday evenings, when the household demands quiet, don't we ? It fired up fine, and seems very quiet, low-hum. I'll get loud tomorrow, and will post PICs and clips as soon as I can. More later...
