Hmmm... a backdoor invite to The Gear Page.
A few comments:
That removable internal baffle is an invitation for the cabinet to buzz or rattle. Internal parts like that should be either mounted securely or damped with a bead of silicone. If it's siliconed in place it's no longer removable.
Sanford Sharpie will hide a multitude of sins on your first covering job but only if the tolex is black. For a real good time try white tolex. Alcohol will remove Sharpie if you get careless.
Speaking of careless... playing guitar with cuts on your fingertips is no fun. For me it was a choice between giving up playing music or giving up cutting my fingers. I still play music.

let's see, questions and comments...
i'm aware of the possibility of rattles and buzzes from the internal baffle; we've taken steps to minimize this (the back panel effectively jams the middle piece VERY tight against the speaker baffle, and there are a few braces that are positioned to help secure it as well). permanent mounting is a last option, there are other tweaks we'll try first if we run into problems. dampening with silicone is one idea. a thin layer of weatherstrip material (or rubber, etc.) attached along the edges of the middle baffle is another.
as my current cabs buzzes and rattles from being on the road for the past several years, anything will be a significant improvement.
the cut finger isn't mine, it's the builder's.
bob-I, the speaker holes were cut with a jigsaw, i believe (i'm not the builder).
i should see the cab tuesday.
i'll give a tone report and some updated pics with the rocket asap! i still need to order a speaker (waiting on some money first) to pair with a weber alnico blue dog. i've been using a pair now for some time, and i'd like to experiment with a greenback type to fill out some things i'm not getting with the blues alone.
thanks for the input and comments...

I hope it works out. In my experience if something is mounted tight inside the cabinet but it's still able to move at all it will squeak rather than buzz.johnspeck wrote:as my current cabs buzzes and rattles from being on the road for the past several years, anything will be a significant improvement.
Although it may sound like I gave up woodworking so I can play guitar in reality I'm out in my workshop for long hours nearly every day. Every woodworker should play a stringed instrument, it makes you very aware of your fingers. Knock wood, I break a lot of fingernails but I rarely draw blood.johnspeck wrote:the cut finger isn't mine, it's the builder's.
I tune my cabinets to work well with inexpensive Eminence speakers. I lean towards the old Legend series. The Redcoat and the Patriot series are are tweaked versions of old Legends with a few notable exceptions. The Cannabis Rex (silly name IMHO) or the Lil' Buddy are worth having.
My theory is that if I build a cabinet to sound very good with inexpensive speakers it will sound even better with expensive speakers. I might be on to something because more than a few discerning tone hounds love my work.
Re: new homebrew cab for my rocket
so muchxs was VERY right!
initial tone report from my pal: the internal baffle will have to be tweaked for the next cabinet build. it won't work for the application i had in mind.
good news is, the speakers have amazing separation when used with two amps, without the baffle. i'll have to test it with my amps, but so far, a-ok from the builder.
he says it sounds amazing in mono. the 'beam blocker' strips are taken from vox cabinet designs. he says they work great.
should see it tonight or tomorrow.
more when i get it...
pics too.

Re: new homebrew cab for my rocket
I've only tried the 1058s and they are really very nice. I'm kinda stuck on the warehouse veteran right now for a 12". I bought a Swamp Demon (10") by mistake though and I'm not sure what I'll do with it. Probably pair it with something with a little color. A couple of guys here are pairing the Swamp Thing (12") with the Tonker and enjoying success.muchxs wrote:I tune my cabinets to work well with inexpensive Eminence speakers. The beam blocker in Johnspeck's cab does look like a plan for some speakers.
