Re: pacific output trans
So I contacted Pacific about the OT..
They were advertised as 7.5k
Red Series as well as USA Series.
They are relling me that the spec sheets had typos and they were 6.6k all along. someone inquired recently and they corrected the spec sheet to say 6.6k
Eventually I'll get the chance to test mine and I'll come back and confirm..
Here is a pic they sent me showing 6.7k
I'm sure one of you has had a chance to measure some at.one point or another.id be interested to hear if this info is wrong. If not I'm happy to have found out ..

Thats interesting. Someone from this forum asked Pacific this question and they replied something along the lines of they built the transformers to spec from the line cards and after built the Impedances showed different than the 6k6, This is all 11415 part numbers or equivalent including Kens Pacifics were actually 7k5
Re: pacific output trans
Wow! I spoke to Ken a couple of times back in the 90's about an amp but ended up with a 50w JMP. I've been kicking myself for years now but hindsight is always 20/20. I was young and have had a lot of life since then. It is likely that it would have been tough to keep one around through some of the things life deals you. I do still have the Marshall though. I'm a fan of Glens playing, his amp and the burst!
Vince- let us know what you find with Pacific. My interactions with them over the years has left me with the belief that it's not the same company as when KF was dealing with them. That being said if the OT in the amp sounds to your liking are you sure you want to change it out for another with a different impedance?
Re: pacific output trans
Yes, I and others I know have had independent conversations with those at Pacific. Their response has always been that throughout their relationship with KF he had them alter the specs on both the PT's and OT's. They have always doubled down on the different impedance on the OT's as well as the current ratings on the PT's. Surprises me that they're back to the 6.6k now. I'm thinking the pushback from those who had done some homework led to minimal sales. Are they are advertising the Red Series being produced in California as I was under impression they were produced overseas. I'd like to hear more about that as it sounds like there is some detail missing. It seems unlikely that they would produce two transformers with the same specs at different price points in the same facility. I'm wondering if the Red Series are in part produced elsewhere and then assembled in Anaheim.RockinRocket wrote: ↑Fri Jul 26, 2024 11:19 pm Thats interesting. Re: pacific output trans
The red series is definitely an oversees product according to them.
Thry say it's identical to the Californian ones...
I should get around to testing mine.
I do like the sound , a lot. But having no other experience with wrecks I'm left wondering if the proper 6.6k would be better lol.
And the skeptic in me thinks they revamped the design recently when they changed the spec sheet . Haha.

Re: pacific output trans
I just tested both of my Pacific Transformers that were advertised at 7.5k
According to my measurements, they are both reading 6.4 K Primary impedance using Marstran.com method

Re: pacific output trans
I talked to Justin Richardson at Pacific when I inquired. He is saying they've been 6.6k all along and it was a typo in the spec sheet that read 7.5k
Glad to see someone has verified this.
I bought my red set late last year..

Re: pacific output trans
So what about the JTM45 output? The spec sheet is all so a typo? 10.4k somethings fishy.

yes, many of the output transformers have a high ZRockinRocket wrote: ↑Tue Jul 30, 2024 1:09 am So what about the JTM45 output? The spec sheet is all so a typo? 10.4k somethings fishy.

Re: pacific output trans
I thought Heyboer did a run of Express output transformers that had a primary impedance of 7.2K these were supposed to be based on a good sounding Express and the feedback was positive.

I’m wondering what the test is that is showing the primary impedance to be 6.7K?Vince- wrote: ↑Fri Jul 26, 2024 10:06 pm So I contacted Pacific about the OT..

What is the Marstran method of testing primary impedance?
No problem, I found it.
