NewB Express built

Post by narapo »

This is my fouth amp build (previously 2 Tweed clones and a 20W Lead and Bass) ; I stared from a partial Ceriatone kit, upgraded with ToneSlut trannies, Mallory for the main capacitors, and a self assembled preamp board ; flame maple cab I bought from a guy on TGP

some pictures from the build :

It sounds great ; I have tried a few pre tubes ; I first tried a Sovtek LPS in V1, but the feed back was hard to tame ; now it has NOS Telefunken's in V1 and V2, a Tung Sol in V3 and NOS Siemens EL34 from KCA tubes ; I play it thru an avatar 2x12 cab with a G12H30 and a Vintage 30, and a Ken Fisher / Dr Z Attenuator I have also build, thanks to this forum ! The attenuator fits very well the amp, and the feedback is easy controlled with the fingers or the volume knob of the guitar

What knobs are you using?

I think I got them from TubesAndMore (Antique Electronics Supply) but I can't remember exactly ; about those knobs, I made a msitake while engraving the face plate ; I chose the same spacing as the Ceriatone faceplate from the center of the pot shaft, but I forgot the knobs from Ceriatone are smaller (alike Marshall knobs) so the knob edge is a bit over the text.

Since the faceplate is symmetrical across the long centerline, you could just flip it over and re-engrave... assuming the wood still looks okay.
Wife: How many amps do you need?
Me: Just one more...

I've got a new, laser etched faceplate for you if you want one.

Check the Classifieds for my ad. I have 2 maple plates ready, and I can make more. I might even have one soon that will match your head cab better.

Thanks guys !

I know my lead dress is not as neat as some amps seen here on the forum, but I'm still learning.

I will build soon a D'lite 22W kit (already ordered, waiting for delivery) and I am currently building a brown Vibroverb from parts (bare fiberboard, chassis and cab from ebay), with a tweaked normal channel (modified capacitors for a more "british" sound, as well as some kind of "Raw" mod with a detented pot (in place of the ext speaker jack) on the back plate to progressively dump the tonestack to ground, and possibly a NFB switch or pot (in place of the ground switch).

I think I have the amp building virus !

I have seen your plates, the etching is a lot better work than what I have done.

Yes, please send me a pic of that last maple plate you will have soon to see if it fits.

They make a smaller version of those switches I believe.
I have used them on stomp box builds.

If it's a Ceriatone chassis, I'm positive it will fit. I'll get back to you with images.

Cool, we can chat later. I don't want to derail your thread.

I'll sand down and prep the two faceplates I have, but a custom one is only a few PM's away.

Now back on topic. :)
