new liverpool

Post by CraigB »

Hi, here's my attempt at a Liverpool, I know it's not a clone, but it sounds great. I like WWII aircraft nose art, so I chose that as the theme for this build. THe last time I did woodburning was probably 40 yrs ago. Too much fun!

The artwork is awesome.

I'm wondering about the heater wiring. I've always read that twisted is the way to go, but I've built 2 amps with parallel brass rods running alongside of the sockets and they're very quiet. How is this one?

Heater hum is not an issue whatsoever. I've got some background hiss, which I guess should be expected in an amp with this much gain on tap, but no hum.

I'll post some in-cab pics when I get it done.

Finally got it in the cabinet. Nothing fancy, just poplar, but it has some quilting that has a depth that doesn't really come through in the pictures very well.

Interesting variation on the power supply board too. Dang fuse holders. My build has a horizontal PT so the caps on board option was out but it has allowed you to keep your NFB wire clear of the power tube grids. If you go to a Hexfred full wave rectifier you can put the other bias resistor on the board too.

I've bought some clips and intend to mount the PT on any further builds all above board.

Pretty job.

Great looking build Craig! :D

Is there any concern for the small electrolytic that is mounted above the cement pwr resistor on the left as far as heat goes?

Thanks! It looks like that cap is sitting right on the resistor in the photo, but they're spread apart about 1.5 inch, and when it's flipped over and sitting in the cabinet most of the heat probably rises away from it.
