A dummy wiring question
Well I had this idea a long time ago to try and do a copy of francesca even though I really dont know how to build an amp. I figured id wire up as much as I could just copying what I saw, then bring it to an amp guy I know to do a final check and let him do the fire it up an tweak part. Well I gained a ton of respect for what you guys do..this can be a pain! Anyway..I was wondering if all you guys wire these 2 wires highlighted UNDER the board? I got ahead of myself and missed them..could I wire on top of the board for these two? Would it make any difference or is it purely aestetic. Or do I really need to pull it up and wire em underneath? This has been a like 2 year long project I just kinda work on from time to time..but now I kinda really wanna get it done. Pic below is where Im at with it as of today.

Re: A dummy wiring question
That is a good looking build, especially for a first. They would work on top - but-It is such a good looking amp. Loosen your board & raise it as much as you can. I think you can get your wires underneath. Did you get your B+4 & 5 feeds under the board?
I've got blisters on my fingers!
Re: A dummy wiring question
Some people don't like to run wires under the board at all, as it makes troubleshooting/repairing more difficult. Functionally, it should be the same, although this amp is very sensitive to lead dress. I put mine under the board. I tried to make the lead dress just as it was in the Francesca pic's. You won't ruin anything if you try it on top, and you can always change it if you don't like itmartins3325 wrote:...could I wire on top of the board for these two?
I agree with Buschman, this is a beautiful build

Re: A dummy wiring question
Ok heres where I really expose my ignorance..like I said Im just painting by numbers here..hoping to get idiots luck that I end up with an amp that sounds really good. In the Diagram the B4 and B5 --red and yellow-- seem to run from the Mallory caps to a "dead lug" which arent hooked up to anything else..seems wierd..is the diagram incomplete? or is that correct. Cant see anything in any of the Fran photos that looks like there is anything else wired to those lugs.Buschman wrote:That is a good looking build, especially for a first. I look at some of your guys work and after trying this am like.. Wow! this isnt easy. Especially when I see Allynmey, and UR12's work..and that Highway 31 guys wiring is insane! Wow..you guys make amps insides look like art! One piece of solice I take from getting down about my project is the best amps I ever heard --55 Deluxe, old AC30- were birds nests inside..lol..maybe theres hope yet. In any event I tried to acquire the best or most correct parts possible. Original TR Ruby Pacific Transformers, Riken Resisters, PVC Caps, teflon power tube sockets..ect..hopefully that will be the amps saving grace..lol.

Look to the left;
B4+ connects under the board to a 100k resistor (R9 - V2a plate resistor)
B5+ connects under the board to two 100k resistors (R3, R5 - V1a/b plate resistors)
Edited to add; Resistor numbers cited are from DrHulsey's most excellent markups :

Re: A dummy wiring question
Check ceriatone's express layout and you will clearly see where B4 and B5 should be conected.

I built off this layout...it was very easy to work with!dimitris wrote:Check ceriatone's express layout and you will clearly see where B4 and B5 should be conected.

I am very impressed with your work, being a beginner myself. What chassis is that?

Re: A dummy wiring question
Thanks for the help guys..i belong to many forums guitars, amps, football..this is the coolest as far as people being open minded and helpful. So many people just like to bicker about things they consider themselves experts at, with others who consider themselves experts..that really doesnt seem to happen here..very cool..just exchange of ideas, tolerance, experimentation, and positive reenforcement. I bet a young Ken Fischer would of loved this forum. And to answer the above question It is a Ceriatone chassis that I discovered you could order in extra thickness for a small upcharge..so I went with that. -- I think 3mm..was like $10 more-- I think probably the hardest part so far was tring to solder that buss wire to the damn PEC pots..seems on there pretty good now..but wasnt easy to say the least. Im sure there was a better way to do that! ..lol
Re: A dummy wiring question
I would not rely on soldering to those pots to hold up.
I would highly recommend you make sure the buss wire is grounded specifically and not rely on the pot case for ground.
