I gotta couple of extra TW OTs from Moose (the ones with 5.6k and 6.6k primaries). Can I drive this OT into an 8 ohm load with a pair of 6L6GC? If it will work is is a bad idea?
thanks

Sure! Smoke 'em if ya got 'em!
Seriously, your iron will work just fine. 5.6k load is close enough to what Fender used and that's a pretty conservative application. Just copy say Super Reverb values for your gridstoppers and your Grid 2 resistors and you'll be good.

Re: 6L6 with TW OT??
I built my Express with adjustable bias, so I have run 6L6's in it with no other mods than a bias adjustment, Way different bias voltage than EL34'S or 6V6's. It was my favorite setup until I found some Mullard xf2's in my old Dynaco stereo.
Re: 6L6 with TW OT??
go for it. moose's express outputs use the same lam dimensions and stack thickness as the "larger" fender 2-6l6 outputs (ie---super reverbs, blackface/silverface bassman heads, etc) and moose's version also uses the same grade steel (m27) as the vintage fender stuff used. 6l6's will be just fine with the 5.2k pri. rh
Re: 6L6 with TW OT??
I put some NOS Tung-Sol 5881s in my Express clone and they sound fabulous. All they required was a bias adjustment.
