So, talk me into building a Liverpool?

Post by BBQLS1 »

I was really thinking about doing an express for quite awhile, but I'd like something to go with my 36W and would like something of similar power. I've also read that the Liverpool may be more flexible than an express.

Part of the reason for the interest in the Liverpool is due to playing a Constellation. While I realize it's not the same amp, I'm thinking that it is probably in the ball park. I think if the Liverpool is a bit too trebley and voxy, I might want to tweak for more of a Marshall flavor and use malory type caps.

Thoughts?

Thoughts:

Listen to Richie's clips of both types.

If you're Joe Lead Guitar, build an Express first. If you're a more all-around player, build a Liverpool first.

I haven't finished my Express yet, but am digging the Liverpool except for the slight instability it has. When it is working right, it's friggin' stellar. When not, it's highly frustrating. So far it does the clean to mean thing really well, but is really loud and I don't get much of an occasion to crank it up. Still plent mean at about 1/3 volume.
Eardrums!!! We don't need no stinkin' eardrums!

With the jams around here, a 30W amp is just right and a 50+ is probably too much unless you like headroom (not a big fan of it myself, I say it's overrated! )
