I was just wondering what your B+ voltage drop was off your ss rectifier thru the string? What would you have done different with a GZ34 instead. I'm using the same PT for essentially the same build. The only real difference being a tube rectifier and cap cans.

I should have taken voltage chart :)

My previous 18w Rocket for son #1 did use GZ34 and that voltage chart is below.

I will try get new voltage chart for SS rectifier version.

Here's a link to my voltages with SS rect and 280-0-280 PT

Mark, Nice build and a few clever ideas for sure... love that bypass cap through the chassis. I glanced over this and didn't see what your cathode resistor was on the output tubes... I assume you have to increase it a bit to accommodate the higher voltages. Sorry not to comment on this post before, I am having trouble keeping up with things this summer... kinda looks like all of TAG is enjoying a summer break with fewer posts these days.

Have you tried out 2Tone's mod in the amp? Very easy to wire up a switch with that mod.
On the Rockster amp we did this since there wasn't originally a bright switch there. On my latest update of my Rockster reverb I used a DPDT switch and in one position I just use it as a bright switch and in the second I combine a bright cap and cathode bypass boost on the 2nd stage... works real nice!

Did you use standard Rocket values for the other components? I have been trying to get everything together to build a "sweet 16" 6V6 Rocket using the EDCOR 15 watt iron. I had ordered a dozen Rocket PT' at 252-0-252 @ 250mA but somehow things went awry and they sent me 125mA trannies... they made good on the correct parts and cut me a deal for the lightweight trannies as well so I have some iron. I want to put together some lightweight combo amps based on the reverse image Rocket.

Finally, I like the SS rectifer and will do the same on my Sweet 16 amp. In my Express test amp I have an analog voltage meter on the B+ and also the ability to switch between the Rocket and Express power supply. You can clearly see the sag on the Rocket supply and not so much on the Express supply. What is interesting is that if I put a SS plug in the Rocket supply I still see a substantial sag... implies to me that the choke sags more than a resistor? I'll try to get a video of this, it's interesting but not sure how it impacts tone or performance.

rj I'm using 150R to keep bias in check.

Your Sweet 16 15W will be a nice amp I like Edcor transformers they perform very well and look good doing it.

Mark, nice looking build as always.

Late question but it took me a bit to read through the thread before asking...whats the orange drop you have on the PI? For example the value, reason you chose that (I could guess 'cause I had it and it was the right value'?) over the Dijon. And not being experienced enough yet, if it's an addition to the normal layout what is its purpose (or just stuck there from space constraint to cut noise etc).

Love that cap through the hole for bypass! Your sons are very fortunate players.

Be sure your tinfoil hat has a good low impedance ground.

It's hard to see but the .0047uf OD tone cut cap has an eyelet hidden there with wire going to the tone cut pot underneath the board. I'm using PPIMV so that center turret remains a ground point, you can see the ground from the MV dual pot going there.

Ah, I thought that might have been the case, but way too inexperienced to be sure. Thanks. I know I am really enjoying my 18w Rocket and (finally) will have some clips after a friend filmed one of the shows.
