Chassis Mounting

Post by Munga »

Any tips on drilling the holes in a head cab to mount a Ceriatone chassis? I have figured out a couple of ways, but am wondering if there is any easier way?

Very carefully... I don't have any good tips. I do very careful, triple-checked measuring to get the holes in the right spot.

Oh... I do have one tip... I use the same bolts to mount the cab feet that mount the chassis. This way, the hole in the cab can be a bit bigger to find the chassis holes and will be hidden by the feet.

Great idea! That probably means you have to get feet with holes that match the mounting screws. Unless you modify them.

I made a template out of phenolic (no reason it couldn't be 1/4 plywood or cardboard for that matter) I put it on the inside of the box and measure from the back of the template to the back of the cab. Take the template out and put it on the outside of the cab bottom and make sure it is centered side to side and the same distance from the back as it was inside the cab and drill my holes. The holes I drill are large enough to allow for a little adjustment of the chassis.

if you can put the screws in backwards, you can make an indent inside...doesnt help much but, if you have a small drill might work...

It will if you grind the screw heads into a point.

Yeah... Large feet are sized for 1/4" and I tap my chassis for 1/4" bolts, so works out well. And, the chassis holes on a wreck-style amp are in a perfect place for feet, too.
