I mostly understand whats going on here - the 6 position rotary just decreases the resistance by 5 ohms every click from 1 to 6, right? So then what is the rheostat for? Is that just an internal fine adjustment, or how does that come into play?

It's for (Bedroom level) it's when the kids are sleeping and the wife is sleeping. TONE is hampered after the first two graduations. But when at home most of us can't play that loud anyway. The only way to get the TONE is by cranking it up. Unless you use a isolation cab and record. It does have a viable use though........ 8)

toneman, could you look at the wiring and the jumpers on the rotary switch and let me know if they are correct?

I get what the device does, and I get what the rotary switch is doing. My questions are:

1. How does the rheostat function - the more you say about that the better.

2. What function does that cap serve?

Kudos for getting fired up enough to crank out some layouts Barry...just want to give another shout out...Norm did this layout a year ago and a bunch of these have been built...there are some great layouts around if you look...including dumbles.
Remember kids...Always adjust for minimum smoke!
