liverpool noise
My 2xel84 Liverpool build has some hiss in it. with the volume control at 0, it sounds like its turned up a bit. When you increase the volume the hiss level comes up but sounds like normal. Now I know that these TWreck style amps have some hiss but my Express build seems to have less noise when the volume is at 0 then the 18watt Liverpool. Any suggestions? I've been thinking about lowering the cap into the PI from .1 to maybe .047. Also, right now I have on the EL84s, 302v on the plates, 9.08v on cathodes and a 150 ohm Cathode resistor. That puts me about 8 watts. I know this is low. Could this contribute to the hiss level? Thanks
Re: liverpool noise
Does it still hiss with V1 pulled ?
I'd check the pre's / PI first.
Another thought - the 1 Meg resistor on the input jack.
A good low noise variety is a good idea.
Good Luck !

Re: liverpool noise
I'll try another 1M. All noise goes away when you pull V1
Re: liverpool noise
V1 needs a special tube for the Express & Liverpool.
Quiet / noise free tubes aren't easy to find.
Also screened wire to the first 2 stage grids, with grid stoppers can help.
That's Heresy to some here...
Lead dress is super touchy too - get the chopsticks out.
Liverpools are great amps - worth the effort to get right.
Good luck, You'll get there,
