Which filter is that? that funky pre-OD Network? I like the simpler circut myself, this amp is for my Girlfriends Dad, he wanted an amp that went from BF clean to Marshall OD, I said "I know just the thing!" He loves the amp, and I earned MAJOR brownie points.

There are alot of similarities between the ODS and the Express, especially the way the extra gain stages happen after the EQ, that really allows the amp to have a ton more bass before it farts out. I think it's a pretty simple circut compared to say an SLO (That is a fun build too!) but it's on 7 circut boards(8 in this case) which makes it about a 60hr build start to finish, compared to an express which I can usually hammer out in +/- 20 hrs (5-6 hrs built into an existing amp). Truly a labor of love!!

The combo is an "80's" amp, I think I like it better It has the .047/100K mid control as well as the local feedback on V1A and a global master. I got some "Special" info on the Trannies from a reliable source, It's a bit more "Hi-Fi" sounding than the other amp.

The trimmer is also known as the "Trigger" control, it controls exactly how much juice from the clean gets fed into the Grid of V2A, it really alows you to tweak the response of the OD. I like these amps because I can adjust that trigger such that the amp will go from clean to mean with pick attack, it works like the fast/slow switch on a Komet.

Excellent work Funk! I enjoyed your explanation on the different D clone schemes. I had not heard of the trimmer referred to as a Trigger, but it makes more sense to me than Fast/Gradual. I have had a great time tweaking my D circuit and have learned alot. The Twreck Express is so simple I have not had much success changing values. In part, I don't won't to change that simplicity as that is part of its appeal and likely its overall behavior. Hope all you EE's don't mind my use of non-technical terms in a verbal description but I don't have that degree.

Where is the best source for info on D amps and clones. I would like to build one. It looks involved though. That doesn't scare me but it would help to have info to fall back on if available!

Thanks

I don't know of a source for Dumble info, but if you guys want we can start collecting info on this site. I can post schematics and pictures in the Files section as well. I thought about making a different area specifically for Dumbles, but one think I don't like is are discussion boards that are segmented into too many topics and have areas that go stale (no posts for days). Let me know what you guys think.

Omar,

I have been a part of this page for a while, but at the same time have been chasing the "holy grail" of D-mbl- amp info. Ampage as well as the Robben Ford discussion pages have a lot of members that are into the D amps and there are a number of very helpful players/builders who have given myself and others here lots of info.
I think it would be great to have a "one stop" D-amp info site, and I think that there is a gold mine of info that members here would be willing to post. But I'm betting you might get some heat from HAD. I realize that aside from copyright violations he might have no real claim to pursue, but it is something you should consider.

The brouhaha that occured here awhile back is pretty tame compared to some Dumble internet back and forth.

I know one thing, after playing a few Dumbles through the years they are all over the map tone wise. Definately tweaked to the player moreso than TWs.

BTW- Nice work Funka!

Look I think expanding to include Dumbles is a great idea. But I do believe HAD won't like it. I don't think that should stop you but you might want to institute a code. Call it something else. HAD is known for calling his lawyers at the slightest provocation. I don't know if it is true but doing web searches is reportedly not unknown. Just a thought so if you go ahead you're aware that you might be asked to stop. You can prevent any interference by simply not using the word "Dumble". Because it is my understanding he can only protect his copyright and that's his name he can't actually protect his designs as they are not copyrighted or patented.

Yeah thats my understanding as well. He scares people with lawyers but the truth is he has no rights or patents on anything in his amps. So just say Dumbo or Humble. A common word that its useless to do a search for. D u m b l e takes to long to type ;) Thats why I just call them D amps.

It would be very nice to have a single site to discuss and exchange that information. It took me months to assemble the information I have from sources all over the net and I am still looking for all the golden tweaks I can find. If you have any reservations Omar you could ask the site admin, JED over at the SLOClone forum what his experience has been running a site based on Soldano pdcts. My two cents is that we have a couple electrical circuit schematics circulated in the public domain for years, Hybrid A and 1997 Schematic, that individuals have made various modifications to in order to obtain the most desireable sound and behavior from. The forum would simply be about sharing and discussing that information. It sounds like putting up with some grief from HAD would go along with it though.

I can tell you that unless you plan to sell something with the word "Dumble" on it you're just fine. From what I understand Mr. Dumble has far more to worry about than people saying his name. he can't sue you for talking about an un-pattented design (Well not since western electric anyway!) so feel free. I am happy to contribute everything I've found on the net.
