I just received my Ceriatone Express from DHL. The corner is damaged much like Captain_Rusty's, though not nearly as bad. The corner is slightly bent, though hopefully not bad enough to make a difference, the plexiglass is cracked at the end, and the pilot light snapped off. I will have pictures later.
I contacted Nik and am hopeful this can get straightened out.
That chassis can just barely handle those transformers. Plus they're both right together on the end. They actually flex my chassis a little if you wiggle them. A pretty delicate shipping situation. And I'm wondering about how sturdy a gigging situation that chassis is...
Damn! Sorry to hear that. It's the let-down after the waiting that's worst...
I think that maybe Nik ought to see about a slightly bigger carton for these shipments, and maybe solid polystyrene instead of those chips. And maybe some extra reinforcement around those massive transformers...
However, it has to be said that Nik's service is still absolutely terrific - he's already started building me a replacement
As for gigging, I don't foresee any problems once the chassis is in a head cab...
I received my Rocket from Paul Ruby, California to Detroit, with both trannies bent up, etc... And it was super-well packed. I loosened the tranny mounts, bent them back into place, and re-tightened. No problems, zero issues upon powering up or since. So it's not the end of the world.
I don't think there's any good shipping companies anymore.
If I build a wreck clone for somebody and they don't get a cabinet, I ship the amp upside down and let gravity protect it. It has worked pretty good so far. The tranny weight is not on the chassis and as long as you put the shipping label on the right side, they usually put the box so the label can be read easily.
My Ceriatone Express arrived in good working order, with no damage, but the box was really beaten up. It didn't have much of the corners left. The trip from Kuala Lumpur is obviously a rough ride. The disadvantage of the chips, even if the amp itself was bubble wrapped good in my case, is that heavy items (such as the amp) will tend to work themselves to the bottom/sides of the parcel, and get mor susceptible to impact. The corners are probably least protected by the bubble wrap too.

That was exactly the problem. At first glance, the box looked fine. However, the corners were all smashed in,
