Fuse blowing on Liverpool

Post by plook »

Any idea what would cause a fuse to keep blowing on a clone Liverpool. It happens quite a lot. I'm in UK using a 1.6amp 250v slow-blow fuse.

Start by pulling all the tubes. Still blows? Then bad component or transformer, short to ground, etc.
I build and repair tube amps. http://amps.monkeymatic.com

Or the amp may not have any issues but may need to use 3A fuse because of inrush current.

Check rectifier diodes
More than once has has happened to me. In fact just this afternoon. Marshall JCM 900 blowing fuses
Looked for the problem everywhere and found nothing at all. Then checked the diodes and bingo!

.........Now where did I put it?

if it's the mains fuse, and UK is using 220v-240v, then I think the fuse should be at least 2A, maybe even 2.5A.

1.6A just seems low.

you could also try other brands of slo-blo fuses, each one burns a little differently.

Quite the contrary... 2A for 120 volts is 1A for 240volts. Double the voltage, half the amperage...

Anyways, Don´t just put in a bigger Fuse if you didn´t have any problems before.
