New member w/ Ceriatone Wreck project on my table....

Post by speed monkey »

Hey all - great site you've got here, killer info and very inspiring.

So I scored a 1/3 built Ceriatone Wreck kit from a guy who ran out of time and possibly patience. Kit had upgraded Toneslut trannies with it. I will say that looking at everyhting sitting here in front of me is a shade intimidating leaving me scratching my chin with a WTF ? look on my face

So far the circuit board is wired in, the pots are all in, bright switch and input jack, wires to the pre - amp sockets, and trannies bolted to the chassis....thats.about.it....

Outside of some basic electronic projects and soldering skills, this is far and away my biggest electronic undertaking. I've got a guy in town who can check my work, and dehughes doesn't know it yet but he may be bribed with a six pack or six for some help.

Any advice is more than appreciated, I'll keep searching past posts for clues. I'll post a pic or two of its current state for reference.

Thanks ~

SM, post a clear gut shot of the amp as a starting point. Makes things much easier!

I'm going to guess that if you gave it to Allyn the first thing he would do is rip the board out

Short of that you need a method.
Look at the amp as modular:
AC Mains/Power Transformer Wiring
Output Transformer Wiring
Power Supply
Preamp Board
Control Wiring
Tube Wiring
Feedback/Presence Circuit
Heater Wiring
Input
Outputs and impedance selector
Brite Sw.
Etc.

Check it against the layout, mark it off as you go.
You're going to want to examine those boards very closely too.

Definitely need pics.

Maiden voyage gut shot:

[img:800:483]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v80/s ... clone1.jpg[/img]

Brownnote nailed it in that I need a method moving forward, take it in small chunks I can digest and understand what I'm doing any why I'm doing it.

Any red flags in the pics above? (besides not being built  )

Thanks !

Well the good news is...the stuff that can cause fireworks if it's mis-wired, isn't there yet.

You'll be able to wire the mains and power section from the start which is probably a good thing.

Thats good, I'm sort of anti-fireworks in the house

One thing I just noticed that does concern me a bit, when I took a closer look at the top side of the chassis and the transformers, I noticed one side of the PT is dented in. It's not caved in,but is dented enough that I don't know if I should move forward with wiring this up:

[img:799:599]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v80/s ... ydent3.jpg[/img]
[img:800:659]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v80/s ... ydent2.jpg[/img]
[img:800:600]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v80/s ... ydent1.jpg[/img]

I don't know enough about how these work exactly, but I would guess that there is the risk of shorting it if the winds come in contact with the metal casing? Is this a candidate to send to Heyboer for repair?

Here's shot of the right side of the chassis, looks like it needs some parts in there.

I also found all the info I needed about wiring the Toneslut trannies in to this amp - great information available in this site, thanks to those that have done serious legwork.

Speed, there seems to be a lot of the work done! :D Do you have a layout from Nik's site yet? Start with that. I believe Nik's power board have the caps mounted on it so it should be pretty easy. The tranny cover is probably OK but, if it bothers you, Heyboar can sent you another for practically nothing. Do you have all the rest of the parts?

Here's the rest of what showed up in the care package:

Guy also sent two color copies of Nik's layout, the wiring code diagram from Toneslut and a completed gut shot picture from Nik. Based on what I see in the layout diagram and the pictures everything I need is right here.

If you don't think the dented tranny cover makes a difference I won't sweat it. I really appreciate the input.

Thanks ~

dented tranny

If the tranny dent bothers you. Unbolt the two bolts on that side that hold it to the chassis. Take off the nuts holding the cover. Take it off, hammer liberally, put it back on! Mine showed up dented too. But not as bad as yours.
