Airbrake Enclosure Alternative

Post by rmroza »

Hey guys

I'm looking for alternatives for airbrake enclosures besides what is the int forum BOM...maybe an extruded enclosure. In any event, I'm looking for something "vented" and have come up empty-handed! This will be the full brake with rheostat.

Please let me know and thanks in advance.

I got some gutted car radio amplifier boxes some have vents. Look around at your local surplus store or car junk yard.

I have several but they are all sealed tight.

Did you drill it for ventilation? Pictures?

i will try to get a couple picks up soon. I also added a relay so I can switch between two different levels....kinda like a boost box. I did not drill vent holes, it stays cool as is.

hey appreciate the feedback, of course I could use just about anything, but looking for something looks good to most and more commercial. I was thinking maybe some extruded boxes. They're aluminum and usually finned and thought maybe use one of those gold colored ballast wirewound and some thermal compound to the chassis, but let me tell ya...i tried those before on a 50 and 100w amp and they were soo hot they almost burnt my hand. Therefore, I went with the standard air core and abandon them. Is anyone using them?? If so, how and how applied??

I don't think the full brake with rheostat and 2 air core would even fit in an electrical junction box...or are you talking atypical size??

In any event, if anyone knows of like I said a more "commercial? box like Dr. Z or PAN - http://www.google.com/url?sa=i&source=i ... 0699312382

if your looking for fancy extrusions i would google extrusion manufactures and check them out they usually have a catalog of available extrusions and they usually have a lot to choose from.

here is my Ammo box....it has a few stickers on it....I added a relay to switch between the two knobs(yellow chicken head and silver knob)...they are in parallel...this way I can set up a 'boost' and still have great tone. The 1/4" jack on the front is for a foot switch.
