I've got all my stuff at work. My office is in an engineering lab so it's just easier to build amps and just leave them there. On weekends I am always cranking them up when there's nobody else working. Our next door neighbor is the police station. I guess there's no residential neighbors to complain so they don't bother me.
Re: express gets me a 250 dollar ticket
I gigged my express in a very small room (about 5x6 meters) at a student house some time ago. the students were right in front of the drums and amps. they looked kinda scared when we were playing. we have a pretty hard-hitting metal drummer and I used the express w/o any attenuation (w 2x12"). It was probably at least 110dbvibratoking wrote:..I don't think you can have enough distance with an Express.

Re: express gets me a 250 dollar ticket
Has anyone experimented with soundproofing or noise reduction panels or insulation? My neighbors are real close, but I try to play during the day when they are at work. I thought for a couple hundo I could soundproof my jam space but probably won't until I get one of those $250 tickets.
By the way, that is a HUGE fine for making noise. Your neighbor should be working at 11am!!

I have experimented with soundproofing. You can go the expensive route with double walls and lead lining. That is the only thing that absolutely works IME, especially if the structure is above ground.
High frequencies are pretty easy to soundproof, but low frequency blocking requires materials with a lot of mass - like lead sheets.
I have successfully soundproofed a mostly below ground basement. The only sound 'exits' in that case were the windows which were high on the walls. I covered them with concrete backer board, it's comparatively cheap, which is used for flooring underlayment. Worked like a charm, but that was a relatively easy situation.

Wow I missed this one.
Neighbors can be real dicks.
In our local ordinance it says that between the hours of 10:00pm and 8:00am you aren't supposed to be noisy.
But also if you can hear your neighbor with the windows and doors shut they are in violation of the noise ordinance.
I believe this was added due to the proliferation of subwoofers.
But I don't see how the cops could write a ticket without hearing it for themselves.
We had some college kids living next door in a rental who had parties all the time.
We called the cops a couple times on week nights after midnight.
I swear they must have had a police scanner because they always quieted down right before the cops showed up.
They said unless they heard them being loud they couldn't do anything.
The last time was great though because the kid who lived there got mouthy with a cop and they arrested him.
And yeah, if they have a barking dog, by all means report them.
I hate neighbors that let their dog bark outside all the time.

Sounds like our proliferation of Express clones might call for a new ordinance!!! Mine at -12db will still shake the house. I usually hide in the other room when I play it!

I'm in an Apt and had a 100 watt 4 hole marshall full stack in my living room. I gave them a break, but it still has enough a$$ on the bottom end to shake things pretty good if you get happy with it. My neighbors dug it though, they're kids would dance outside of my door while listening.
I do remember back in the garage band days when I was a kid, back in Sacto., we set up our gear (smaller amps, we were poor kids so nothing all that loud but it was outside) on my friend and drummer's back patio. After about 20 minutes of a LP version of Southern Man the cops walked into the back yard. I was the only one facing in their direction, I stopped and finally got everyone else to stop. They didn't even bother with telling us to turn it down, it was turn it OFF. We played in his Garage after that (like well a Garage band should) and never had any more issues.
Once neighbors get something in they're beaks though they can be real pains in the butt about it. Our neighborhood was pretty chill though, the guy 5 doors down used to tune up his open wheel sprint car and fire it up to load it on the trailer (if you've never heard a small block check at full chat through long headers you can't appreciate how loud it was, to give you an idea, I had a niece who was deaf and even she would hold her hands to her ears and cry she could feel the vibrations from it!).
Club owners that tell you to turn it down until the amp loses all balls suck too. I remember one club we quit playing because the bartender on duty would have us turn it down so she could talk on her cell phone. Hell I was using a tweed deluxe I built with a inefficient speaker and once she was done with us, it was like playing at a dinner lounge, not a dive bar like it was.
Regards,
Don

Hi,
I´m gla not to be alone with my struggle against neighbours.
It´s onnly one in a house with 6 Apt. But I got the BAKER under mine.
When I want to play/test he wants to sleep. Than he starts knockin his ceiling with a broom stick!
I´over 50, he is 25 years!
This guy is only the boyfriend of the flat owner down me. Nothing more.
No one else complains.
The problem is that my open 1x12" stays in front of the main concrete wall. This damn.. wall transmit every single tone even at Vol. 1.
My only solution was to carry the box to the other side of the living room.
What a fu.. luck - a BAKER in the house.
keep on rockin

But yet the city can make all the noise it wants to and keep me up at night paving the road behind my house with those loud road graders and asphalt pavers. I got a right to sleep also.
Frankly if it were me and they called the police on me I would call the police anytime they did anything. Cutting their grass with a loud lawn mower? I'm making the call. Dog barking? I'm ready. Kids being unruly? Ditto.

reminds me of the infamous ripp glitter reviews on HC ( https://www.google.nl/#hl=en&sclient=ps ... 80&bih=669 )
police used to come over at my house (20 years ago or so) when using a DR on 6 or so, great sound but pretty loud but after some time they refused to come over and just called me to say to turn it down a bit......
