new audio file

Post by castor »

Hi to everyone. I'd like to add this audio file:

express clone with pre mod like mr Abbot version. volume on 1, bright off, high on 1 mid and bass on 12, presence on 10. Tubes: 1 12AX7 LPS Sovtek, 2 Tung sol, 2 EL34 sylvania wingled C
Power reduced to TV level with a modified dr.Z powerbrake
cub: 2x12 Marshall 1922
guitar: strato style with 3 single and mahogany body, volume on 3/4, pk on pos 2 (bridge + mid pickup in phase)
recorded into cubase with AKG mic.
no effect added (except a subtle reverb just to connect all instruments), no equalization or other things
I posted this part of a file just to show the difference in response to difference in picking (I don't use a pick) and don't change the guitar volume.
my clone: Lara (as x previous post).

New pics as soon as I'll receive the new front panel (all the rest is covered with marshall elephant red toolex).. everything changes from my previous post.

Stefano

Sounds very nice Stefano! Very nice how you go from clean to distorted just by being a little more agressive.

Very good! It's a shame that the Express amps don't clean up nicely!!! ''

Logically it's a 1 channel amp, so if you put the volume at max you will not have a completely clean sound! I tried many amps but I think that this is the best amp in this matter.

I keep amp volube between 1 and 3 and the quality of cleaning sounds you have depends on the guitar you use, for example:
- With my strat type guitar: 3 single coil + 1 mid boost - mahogany body + thick figured maple top --> you can have quite good cleans
- with my lespaul: 2 HB vintage 57 --> good knopfler tone , more dynamic sound, but you can't have same good cleans
- with my Pensa MKII --> 1 fralin HB + splitting (never used) --> you can have good cleans, plenty distorted sound.
I thing it depends on the qualities of the guitars and the type of volume pot you have... i.e. differences in perceived volume between clean and distorted are higher with my strato type than with my pensa.

In every case I'll put some new examples with new pics of the amp as soon as I'll receive the front wood panel and mont it.
My big problem with the low volume I keep it at home (with powerbrake/airbrake) is that I loose quite completely the feedback!!

If you need clean sounds you can add the fast/slow switch

Ahh, A clean clip! Nice job.

BTW- Joe-The fast/gradual switch is just a split load plate resistor. You see it on the Komets.
