Signatures have a 255 character limit that I could abuse, but I am not Cecil B. DeMille.

Re: Metal Film
As good or better than any other modern resistor technology you can buy. I've never had to replace one from excess heating.HobbswheresCalvin wrote:Hehe this is great. And ya i figured all the hiss was coming from the v1 position. And as soon as i get some new wire im going to tear out the preamp board of build number one and do it better now that i have a little more knowledge of lead dress. I also like the precision of the metal film resistors. How are they about keeping their value after soldering?

I think it's funny that that's a concern in this day and age.HobbswheresCalvin wrote:Hehe this is great. And ya i figured all the hiss was coming from the v1 position. It depends. Are you only going to use them in a smoke-free studio environment or drive them off the lot?HobbswheresCalvin wrote:How are they about keeping their value after soldering?

Re: Metal Film
Soooo. As i said i was going to do. I pulled the preamp board and redid all the wiring completely. Alot from scratch and added a pec pot for the volume. 5 hours later my work paid off, the hiss nearly gone. My heart leaped in joy as i struck the first chord.
Found out something interesting when fiddling with the controls at a late hour last night. If you keep the bass, mid and treble really low and use the presence to get the high end response. The volume know becomes waaay more useable. Even tho the amp was clean. I stuck a fuzz box in front of it and man it sounded great at low volumes.

Makes sense, the tonestack is off the plate,Reducing the settings in the stack reduces the level into the next stage.
