The later Express's I believe were measured with a 5.2k primary giving them a more aggressive sound. I thought Ken made this switch in the late late 80's. Please correct me if I'm wrong fellers.

Thanks for checking out the video folks! Both amps have 6.6k primary OTs. Well that said I checked the '89 a couple years back to verify, and I'm just assuming the Stancor in the '85 is 6.6k as well.

I did try tube swapping between the two amps but the general individual characters remained with each amp. Currently both amps have National labeled RFT EL34s. Orphan Annie has all Sylvania 12AX7s, and Lori has NOS Tungsram in V1 and V3, and a NOS EI in V2 which is the way I got it.

The only notable electrical difference I've found between the amps is Lori has an 820 ohm resistor on the tube socket at the input of the 2nd stage, appears it was added later when Ken serviced it.

Wow, truly beautiful tones and outstanding playing Glen!

From the description of the differences between Lori and Orphan Annie at the start of the vid, I was fully expecting to like Lori more as I have always preferred darker tones in the past. I was surprised that I preferred OA more.

I was also shocked at how much I liked my Tele plugged into my clone last night. I thought I would find it too bright vs my 335 style humbucker guitar, but it had a really nice aggressive edge to it.

I guess I like brighter tones after all.

Thanks for sharing the video. Super gear and super playing for sure.
I suspect that you would still sound great using less valuable and revered gear though. Nice quality video production.

Cheers!

Wow, you now have two Expresses?

Cool, that would be a wicked stereo pair. :D

You've got no excuse not to get another album out now! Lori sounds amazing, especially on the cleans on the Strat, and I really love the fullness in the low end. It's big but not bloated sounding, so really well balanced.

I'd be happy with either of these, but Lori is really something special.
