New Sensor GEC KT77 in a Express
Has anyone used this new tube in a express style amp ?
So far all I have used is the Siemens EL34 and RCA 6v6.
In the past I used the GEC KT77 in Marshall plexi Superlead 100 amps
1967 to 1968
But not new KT77
Best Regaeds, Steve.

I ran the JJ KT77s for a while and thought they were really good sounding tubes, as well. In the end, my non-stock 7600 ohm primary OT sounded better with JJ 6V6s. The JJ KT77s are less prone to vibration that their 6V6 counterpart, I can add this to the mix. The KT77's guts are very well supported in the bottle, a must have in a TW I think. As to tone? Probably pretty uniform across the freq range, which cannot be said about the Mullards X2f in my opinion. The Mullards are mid range heavy, but many people love that in a gtr amp, I totally understand.

pretty much the same recipe here Rooster..JJKT77s or JJ6v6s..I like them both but cant decide which I like more depends on the day and the type of tunes Im playing...both great choices though for current production tubes.

Re: New Sensor GEC KT77 in a Express
Hello gentlemen, this is my first post here on this web site. I have heard that the GEC KT77 have had issues. I went to order some and was discouraged by the sales man at I think it was Tube Depot.

Hm. Tube Depot. You know, they have what seems like a very developed web site and this huge muti-tube review on it, but it just seems to me like that they are pushing what they want to sell. Sure, that's OK and nothing new if this is the case.
So maybe you should try some things for yourself or discuss things with your amp friends? Check out some other forums maybe. Everybody these days seems to be selling something - just be your own man here, that's my thought. Particularily with new versions of old tubes, the playing field is pretty unknown still. I mean, it could all be crap, true, but what if the guy doing the talking has a boatload of Brand X sitting on his shelf? How can he be unbiased on the subject? .....Well, OK, that's my thought for the day on this subject.

I do see your point, but it also does not help their business or reputation if they are selling poor quality tubes.
By the way, nice way to welcome someone to the community. Need to brush up on those communication skills. I have been on other web sites and have built several amps. Do you think I nothing constructive to add to this site?

I have a pair of JJ KT77's that I'll try when I complete the build.

I've used the GEC KT77's without issue, running them at 500v B+, in regularly-gigged amps. Jim McShane, on the other hand, refuses to stock the JJ KT77's because of perceived poor quality.

Some of the first JJ ones had the wrong sized pins and possibly loose bases, but the ones I got were quite good. Those were easily the best sounding JJ power tubes I've had. They emphasized different frequencies from all other output tubes in my arsenal. I think their tubes seem to be quite well made, but usually am less enamored with their sound.
After how good the NS Tung-Sol KT66 is, I'd be pretty anxious to try the GEC KT77.

Re: New Sensor GEC KT77 in a Express
Wow, this has been resurrected. I see where in my post I pissed somebody off - and he never came back! Hey, I wasn't writing to piss anybody off.

Anyway, as to J/J, I will add that currently I prefer the KT77 to the 6V6 in my Express's. Ha! In hind site the 6V6 was not a good sounding tube, YMMV. When you say that a supplier has some concerns, I totally get that. It was two years ago that they were producing a very questionable GZ34, and I think there are still some sitting on supplier's shelves as I write this. And yes, I have had to replace 5 in that period - but all looking good right now.
I have still never tried the GEC KT77 so I wish somebody would comment about them if they have? I would also offer that the Seimens EL34 is probably ground zero for Express power tubes, just sayin something you all know.
