Airbrake Parts question

Post by Picker »

I was starting to try and hunt down the parts for my Airbrake build and at mouser there was a difference between what they had in stock and what was mentioned in the plans that were posted.

The plan calls for Mouser 588-D100k-25 100 Watt 25 ohm Ohmite 210 series. However, what they have in stock is 588-D100K25RE Which it says is the D1000 series. In a compare looks to be exactly the same except for the Series and the "Type" description

Series D1000 ................................ Series 210

Type: Vitreous Enamel Adjustable Power Resistor................. Vitreous Enamel Power Resistor

They look to be identical. Would the D1000 series work just as well, or Should I avoid it and try to get the 210 series somewhere else?

Thanks

Is one of fixed value and the other adjustable?

Picker, it is always best to click on the Datasheet link:

http://www.ohmite.com/catalog/pdf/210_series.pdf

You'll see series 210 there. Those are adjustable. Depending on how many taps you want, it comes with one clip. So if you want three taps off the resistor you need to get two more clips, as well as mounting hardware since it doesn't come with that either:

i should add be careful to order the right lugs and mounting clips. The outer and inner diameters of each resistor in the series are different so you gotta get the right ones. I bought two 50ohm dividohm resistors from ApexJR. He was selling them for $1 a piece so it was a no brainer. (That guy has some great deals sometimes). So I paralleled those on one side, 50ohms in parallel are 25ohms and double the wattage. I went with another adjustable on the other side for full adjustment. Here's my layout:

Thanks guys. I think I see the difference now. I'll try to find the correct resistor elsewhere and get the rest from mouser.

Thanks.

Looking forward to building it.

Okay, I'm a bit confused again.

The layout https://tubeamparchive.com/files/attenu ... 95_198.pdf shows the 210 series.

However, this thread
https://tubeamparchive.com/viewtopic.ph ... ke&start=0

Shows the 588-D100K-25RE which is the D1000 series.

Which should I be using or does it matter?

The BOM is in the Trainwreck Files section when you download the layout there is a tap you can click on for the AB BOM.

Thanks Mark,

I guess the confusion is that even in the BOM in the Express BOM documents it references the 588-D100K-25RE but also says 210 series. However, on Mouser's Website they say that part number belongs to the D1000 series.
