My 2xEL84 rocket build
This combo was a 60's Acetone Rockey, stripped other than transformers and used it for my Rocket build. Sounds wonderful! Still tweeking a bit. My PT puts 380v on the plates but after the screens, all my voltages match the Rocket files more or less. Its loud! Right now in the combo I have a old Celestion Silver Alnico, I need a more robust speaker but it does sound great through it. I had to use a 220ohm bias resistor, I guess due to the high voltage, it is sitting at about 11.7w plate dispersion. I am picking up a pair of Seimens E84Ls and I'll bias it up to 14watts. Used it on my last set of gigs with my country band blasting my Tele throuh it and it killed! Almost perfect tone and super quiet...other than not being able to get a big twang out of the low E string, but I raised my EL84 cathode bias resistor fro 100uf to 200uf, more like the schematic Rocket and added another 16uf to B+1 (now for a total of 66uf) not quiet up to rocket specs. The other twang issue is the speaker, I could tell that the amp is a bit to loud for the speaker at stage volume. But WOW! great sounding design. I have a second matching Acetone combo here that I stripped and have started my 2xEL84 Liverpool combo. Stereo TWstyle combos! Should I go for a Vintage 30 for the Rocket combo? That seems to be a popular speaker for the Rockets, I've always liked G12H but don't have one right now. its a single 12" combo but remember I'm only 2XEl84.

						Re: My 2xEL84 rocket build
looks really great. Love these re-worked enclosures,
I made a tiny box Rocket too also sitting at about 11,7W with old iron and I like the well-worn-in Celestion Gold speaker. Have not tried a 10" yet.
Surprisingly I get deep lows with that speaker, maybe because it is mounted currently in one of those - and I forget the name now... those ported/reflex boxes for EV12L that you often see.
Generally I have the bass rolled back to 9 o'clock whichever guitar, tele, SG Junior, ES-295, etc.
Best, tony
