first tw build need a little help
After watching some clips on the net im considering a rocket build. I have a few things id like to make sure of before starting, One thing ive read is use a proven layout i assume the one in the TR files is proven? Turrets ok or are eylets recommended? I have 3 powertransformers i could use what is a good ref for plate voltages? What ot and choke? Soild core wire? Are alpha pots gonna do it or should i order some better grade? has anyone tried domino style mica caps in preamp? to what results? Are there any wrek unique parts ill need to order befor starting, thanks mark

I don't know if I can answer all your questions, but I will try to help on a few. The Taylor rocket file is a proven layout. Turrets or eyelets will both function properly. Turrets, if you are trying to make an authentic copy. If not, whichever you prefer. The PT listed in the rocket BOM is listed as a 280-250-0-250-280, it indicates using the 250V taps. B+1 is listed as 290V with 256 on the plates of the el84's. OT is listed as a 5.2K primary. BOM lists the choke as a Hammond 158L or any 15h 75mA choke. Solid core wire 20awg. ( proper color IS important for good tone)
Also look at the Rockster66 files (search) or the Normsters rocket w/ reverb files if you are not trying to build an authentic rocket. Many people give a big thumbs up to either of these two versions.

That low of plate voltage, i dont think i have a pt on hand for that low of voltage, i may have to change to a different TW circuit, pt i had in mind is right around 292 on plates, thanks mark

Mark,
I have used everything from 245-0-245 to 300-0-300 on four EL84 Rocket builds with 4k3 and 5k2 OT. I prefer to run around 280-0-280 PT.
