Hi Pablo,
thank you for sharing this inspiring build and your clips with us.
I have not seen that way of cap-mounting to fend off ringing before. I thought the caps went in parallel with the diodes. But I'm no expert on ringing, never heard it, so I've never tried to snub it out. I really wonder what it is all about? I guess I need to open Merlin's book up again :-)

Just for the record, I noticed this in your post above:

Looking at your photos I think you meant to write that the rectifier is preceded by diodes in series. If they were paralleled, the tube rectifier would not be doing much.

Tony: you're right, diodes do precede the tube.

To tell you the truth I did not notice much difference by installing the diodes. I think the ringing is what is called "switching noise" by the HIFI people. Since there is no audio signal in there, I thought no harm would be done by putting a snubber. Check it out at Merlin's book on power supplies, page 29.
