Hi, everyone.
I'm usually around the Dumble pages. First time here.
I was hoping to build a 18watt but you guys got me into the 2-hole Liverpool.
I may get a Peavey Bravo 112 to use as a donor amp. What do you guys think?
I couldn't find much info except it got 3 12AX7, 2 EL-84 and is rated at 25w
(overrated perhaps !?). I'm assuming it's PCB which means a complete gut
is necessary and I could only use trannies and chassis...
What do you guys think? Worth the trouble?
Thank you all.
All the best.

The PT might work OK, but I think the OT is probably not the greatest.

Re: Donor amp question
One of the first things I do when I am considering a donor build, is to measure the voltages on the PT. If they are close, thats great. Since the tube complement is the same as your target amp, current won't be an issue, but often I find that the voltages are MUCH higher than I want, and I end up replacing the PT. As for the OT, Mark might be right, but you also have the luxury of giving it a try before replacing it. It is appropriate in the most basic sense, so see how it sounds after the amp is built. If you aren't happy, the odds are its the gonna be the OT that is causing your dissapointment.

						Re: Donor amp question
Thanks, guys. I guess it all comes down to how much the donor amp costs
and how much in useful parts it is worth, right? I still don't have a price
point on the amp. In any case, I don't think it will be low enough

Thank you for your help. I'll get back.

Re: Donor amp question
The Lafayette PA cost me about $50, which was fine by me since I used its chassis and OT. Also, I thought the old metal PA chassis looked really cool, so it had that sort of value too.
For my UniWreck, I used a Univox U-1086 PA head, which I paid $160 for. That wasn't bad either since I got a chassis and cabinet out of it, plus some hardware (tube sockets, switches, a lamp, etc.).
For a combo cab, speaker and chassis (even if you don't use anything else), it should be worth at least $150-$200 to you I would think. If it costs $300-$350 that imght be pushing it.
