xits x50s

Post by rhinson »

anyone know about this amp? i'm trying to figure out if it has 4 preamp tubes. the somewhat vague description on the site seems to say they're only 3, but the one pic for sure seems to have separate inputs and eq's for each ch. (like the ac50 it's modeled after), in which case it should be 4 like the ac50. i think i can make out 4 from the couple of pics there but it's tough to tell. rh

The only ones Ive seen are single input single channel. On their web site they list 12au7 for v1 and 12ax7 for v2 and v3.

I just built a single channel, cathode biased ac50 for a friend and while it had similarities to the sound clips of the X50 it didn't nail it. I built it in an epiphone valve jr head so I didn't have the space do do the hybrid bias but i would like to build one again and include this part and see how it sounds. That X50 sounds incredible.

do you remember the control panel layout? that one pic looks like it has 6 or 7 knobs. it's amazing how little info there is on this amp----even from the people that have played/seen one in the flesh. rh

I cant find the picture now, but i saw a two channel one the other day. It was Vol, treb, bass/ vol, treb, bass / cut / on top and then on the back there were two more pots but i couldn't tell what they were. Im sure one of them was probably a MV.

I wonder if they kept the paraphase inverter.

if as stated on the site, it's a version inspired from the ac50/2, then it won't have a paraphase inverter----it'll have the same long tailed pair inverter as the ac30's, with the same values. i've got the big vox book that came out a couple yrs back and got the deluxe version with the extra folder of all the original vox schematics and that's what the ac50/2 has for the inverter. rh

I didnt catch that the 50/2 had a different inverter. I just assumed the bias and rectifier were the main differences. Thanks =)

I built the AC50 with the paraphase first and just changed it to the long tailed pair today. I really think I miss the paraphase inverter though. It seemed unique. Its the first time ive ever used one. Putting in the long tailed inverter feels more familiar and maybe more smooth or even feeling.
