Just a quick question...

Just curious if any of you guys have used the Express schematic but built it into a donor head? Am actually just curious how much the exact layout matters in this instance?

Mine started life as Univox U-1086 PA head. Now its the "UniWreck". I am not a big believer in mojo, so I feel that the only reasons my amp doesn't sound exactly like Allyn's is that I probably deviated slightly in subtle ways I can't even put my finger on, and his skill at lead dress and grounding is probably far superior to mine. I can't believe that specific chassis dimensions and layout or other small details like wire type, socket placement, etc. can actually make a big difference.

Cool lookin amp liberty:) Yeah, i have a ampeg 2x12 combo that i have already gutted the head... so figured i might try it in that:) I like to use what i have laying around instead of spending cash.... although i doubt the iron is good enough.. but i can swap it later if not...

The iron is a big part of the sound, so you might want to at least make sure that you will have room for Mooses iron before getting started.

It doesn't matter much because you still had one of the best sounding amps at ampfest...........HIWATT DR103....we're not worthy...we're not worthy! :D :D

I won't argue that the correct trannys mightn't sound better, but my first two TW amps were built into:

early 60's twin amp chassis

70's Bassman 100 chassis

Besides using the stock transformers, I did some of my own mods also, but the amps still retain 90% of the TW mojo. IMHO most of the sound is in the gain structure Ken designed.
