Hey Guy’s, thought this amp might be of interest. I’ve got one clip done.
Here’s the run down:
Stock Les Paul Standard
Both master volumes are on 3
Presence on 6
Bass on 4

Treble on 5
Ch-1 gain on 10 ( guitar volume rolled down for semi clean
Ch-2 gain on 5 ( lead tone diodes switched to on
ART Multiverb in loop ( reverb, delay and very little chorus
2x12 cab with G12H 30’s
close miked with SHURE SM57
FOSTEX VF-16 Trk 1 clean Trk 2 Lead
Audacity for mp3 converter
NO EQ or Compressor, just straight to deck & then computer.

Mark,
thank you for the listening. I really did'nt want to take down the express but I just couldn't use it, it was simply to loud! since then that amp has had many different circuits in it. I found it hard to find a good fit for the 6.6K output transformer. It's still not what I think it could be but atleast you can use the amp for gig's now. The B+ rail is still low and the filters are the same as an express which helps brown it out. the gut shots will be nasty if I post them as is, I need some time to clean it up some or at least the best that I can do. But I will post some shots of it when I upload the strat clips. this amp will do really good strat tones.

again, thank you for your interest and have a safe & happy newyear!

Wouldn't 6V6s work at that impedance?

Very cool. Now I have seen it all.. Wrecked Marshalls, and Marshalled Wrecks. :)

I can't wait til my iron arrives! Yeehaw!

Hey guys, here a few really bad pic's, I don't own a great camera so its the best I can do for now. I will get the strat clips up though, this amp has very good strat tones which isn't easy with a lot of amps I've used.

thanks guys,
Dennis

Is the Jose mod, the pair of diodes after the tone stack? Just wondering.

jaysg,
the diodes I've tried were 4747,4743 but the ones I like the best are 4148's, but thats just me. I know true JOSE's used zeners and you can certainly make this amp a ture jose if you like. just move ch-2 master to before the tone stack, add a .22uf cap & 10K resistor in series to the input lug of that master, remove the 470K voltage divider thats between the first & second gain stage off the relay and replace it with a 1meg pot for level and there you have it. this circuit change to me made the amp cruchier, more modern sounding. and it will go even more modern if you change the coupling caps to .022uf, add a depth pot ( 47K resistor off pres input, series to .1uf cap to 1meg pot input with .0047uf across pot input lug & wiper lug. lots of bottom like this ( to much for my taste but thats just me. Then a PPIMV or VVR and you've got a modern metal machine for shure, while ch-1 keeps your feet on the ground with old school plexi tone any volume you would like it to be via ch-1 master!

thanks guys,
Dennis

Very nice clips. Great tone! You must be very proud of your work. I would notice that amp right away if I were to walk into a bar and hear you playing with the band. Two thumbs up Bro.

Thank you for the comments guys. if any of you play 70's, 80's rock at gigs, this may be a good choice of an amp for you to try. the fx loop works very well as you can hear on the clip. I get a studio type sound live out of it and you won't tick-off the sound man by playing too loud and "you still have great tone". I use home made plexiglass shields in front of the cab's ( like Joe B. ) when we gig just to make the extra effort and so I can use a little more volume on stage. but really, this amp on 3 or 4 is loud enough. I still trying to find time to make the strat clips, I will post them soon. again, thank you for your comments & please keep them comming.

Happy Newyear to all,

Dennis
