Hi to everyone... I finished my express clone 2 weeks ago. I bought everything from Nik and then mounted everything by myself (i consider it a small game)... her name is LARA! probably this weekend i'll post some audio clips and pics of instruments!
now 2 requests:
- caps: I use elect. caps from Nik (25 micro 25V - 22 and 47 micro 500V). Now I ordered in Italy 20 and 40 micro 500V from Atom and 22 micro 25V from elna silmic. I think i'll have them at the end of next week. Has someone used these caps? how do you think they will work respect to ceriatone ones? Do you think i'll have some improvement respect to my amp?
- head cab: has someone a new or used wood cab to put my express in? I have some problems here near my town to find someone that works or sells wood...
one extra note: after 2 weeks of use, the ceriatone amp start to sound very good... In my other project I had sabe rexults after only a few hours of playing... probably some components needed extra ... i don't know in English.. in italian is 'rodaggio'!
bye bye

Re: caps and head cab
The atom elec caps are great. What are type are they replacing? If the brand is american, I doubt there will be much difference.
No comment on the elna, I suppose you'll just have to try and see.

Re: caps and head cab
thanks.
I replaced all ceriatone caps in the power supply with atom ones (3x20 micro, 3x40 micro)... they're bigger than the others so I had to change all layout of these caps in the chassies and cut a part of the power board.
replaced also the ceriatone 25 micro 25 V with elna 22 micro 25V. Elna is a very common very good quality caps you can find easily in hi-fi part resellers in Italy (I was not able to buy mallory ones).
Really replacing ceriatone 25 micro with elna 22 micro does not make so big difference in the overall sound of the amp!
as of today I'm using it at home with a THD at very bedroom level... so I can not hear differences in their best way..
Anyway the amp sounds good from the beginning... probably I have to wait some weeks for the new caps are a bit used.
I recorded a small blues clib but i was no satisfied so probably one of these night I'll add clips of my amp.
Now a big problem... to find good woods for the chassie.
If someone is interested I can put 2 different files of the same music, one played with my soldano and one with the trainwreck!
