New Liverpool Build Questions

Hi all, I am doing all the prep work for building my first TW Liverpool. I recognize a few names from the 18W site and have a few successful build there, and am really looking forward to trying a 4x84 LP clone. I have studied Mark's schematics and read a number of UR12's posts on the ginger clone.

I have a few questions, that I could not get clear answers on by searching the archives:

1. Wiring the TMB pots, should the wiper be connected to the upper side or lower side?

2. TMB pots - which should be audio or linear taper? Are there better values that would suit a middle of the road amp (e.g. good for strat as well as LP)

3. Power supply caps. Mark has a note on the schematic that says some LP amps had filter caps twice the value as listed - what is the current thinking here?

4. For those who have the 1/2 power switch (UR12) - how do you like it? Is it worth putting in the switch?

5. 1/2 power switch, again. Why are the coupling cap values so different from Mark's schematic - is it just the way ginger was built? Whats the current thinking of the best values here?


Finally, and most embarrasing, is this a 12AX7 preamp?
