Re: New Trainwreck Clip
just saw SOME of you guys are enjoying my clips!
while i respect another's opinion, i will ask that those of you that CAN or COULD do better, put your money where your mouth is! let us hear YOUR clips! Matte did, he rocks, so did a few others. like micheal e
some of you guys are so hell bent on what is right and what isnt in a trainwreck, yet you seem to worship Glenn's tone which is great but is groove tubes and sylvania's! so what the hell?
anyhow. i just wanted to show that it did what it does , and at least i can back up my claims by posting some kind of clips.
1) the amp was pretty much cranked
2) it was through a brand new cab with g12c25
3) brand new guitar
4) in a room with buzzy fluorescent lighting
5) no matter what , people will just continue to be spiteful and just plain ignorant.
6) these were my first clips ever. i just turned on the zoom and played. i didnt try to hide this or that or do anything but play it.
7) the amp rocks, and i will be rocking it when i play 3 sold out shows to 600 people each this weekend!
anyway.
selloutrr, by the way i already own a slo, a real one!! and a badcat hotcat 100, a real one! and some dr z amps, real ones, and three vintage marshalls, real ones,oh and the marshall super 100jh, oh and a bunch of gibsons , a gretsch, fender,................and so on.
i did notice at the start of the thread that it seems you really want to make this personal. go play with your barbies.

new Trainwreck express
well i think its sounding good , and its not that easy to make the recording good , sure Glenn has a good sound , but he is more off a vintage guy when it comes to music , this one show that the express also can keep it hard and thight in harder kind of music , so let us stop being hostile , and if we still want to show off let us do that with soundclips and not words .

He was playing Ozzy Osbourne, "I don't know".Cliff Schecht wrote:For better or for worse, that last clip sounded a lot like Steve Vai from Crossroads.
Re: New Trainwreck Clip
i always laugh when i hear guys make nitpick comments from Youtube Videos... yet claim they can hear things with the precision of audiophile ears.
the PAF videos and comments are the best..
i'm not that great of a player by any means, but i appreciate cool, vintage, and boutique gear.. and youtube help getting a sense of what an amp can do... but for God's sake....
i've done about 10-15 youtube videos and a shitload more that i've not posted, and i can say unequivocally that what goes on to the camera, is not at all what it sounds like in the room... playing at 100+ decibels into a crappy camera mic and then compressing the crap out of it a small youtube video does absolutely nothing for this gear. You loose all clarity, much, if not all of the bottom end, and the sound is just buzzy and borning.
Even Glenn's videos do this... yet we accept them as "sounding GREAT" because we know its a real TW and a real 59
Please understand that i'm not knocking Glenn's videos, I think they sound great for what they are, i'm just saying that i'm 100% confident that his rig sounds considerably different in the room.
i'd bet that if he had recorded those videos playing into a Peavy or Crate amp, with the TW/Basketweave sitting there, NO ONE would have questioned the validity... and people would still say "DAMN that TW/59 are IT"
Its laughable that we fret over minute details in capacitors, and wire gauge, yet base our sonic analysis on a super compressed video that was recorded with a $.59 mic element running on battery power in a $100 camera. LOL

Re: New Trainwreck Clip
If you have all those good amps you sure didn't need a Trainwreck Express to achieve a good tone. To own one yeah that I can understand.
I'm probably one of the few that thinks the Express doesn't do much for me playing wise.

Absolutely. That's why I consider buying Glenn's CD one of the best decisions I've made along the way. Can't wait for his new CD.aaronz28 wrote: Even Glenn's videos do this... yet we accept them as "sounding GREAT" because we know its a real TW and a real 59

Re: New Trainwreck Clip
Even through professional recording equipment, you get coloration from the microphone, microphone placement, the room, the console and that's before it gets mixed and mastered. Not necessarily a bad thing, but as you guys have stated, it is not the same as being there.
Just a casual observation. Guitar tones that work well in a mix don't always sound great on thier own and vise-versa.

Re: New Trainwreck Clip
hey, i just showed the amps to prove that i had them. while im certainly not the greatest player, im not a complete hack either. i do know something about what sounds good. And even that is different from people to people. Selloutrr attacked me from the get go in this thread. i havent said a word since the last thread, but this is insane. all i wanted to do is share the amp with you guys. ok maybe it was a little over the top, but it was cranked, and it held together, there was no way that it sounded bad in that room. im not GK, i dont play like him, i dont play like matte, so i could never get those nice flowing lines you guys like to hear. the comments made about the first clip? really? the amp was only "on" not even turned up, and it still sounded nice and full and round, i know some of you guys know way more about T W than i do, but i would have thought that your love for this amp would have kinda shone through a little bit more. you all wanted to know what the new ones sounded like, so i showed you, in my best ability, and for some that still isnt good enough.
the rest of you , glad you liked it. i will try some better clips now that i have had a fair bit of time with the amp, and experimenting with it.
and dont worry , im through fighting and argueing, now im just playing.

Re: New Trainwreck Clip
Steffen,
We all understand that everyone is not a player like Glen. No secrets there as we all play guitar and sound different.
Thanks for sharing clips and your experience with your amp. Much appreciated.
One thing to consider is that you are addressing a group of amp builders, on an amp building forum. Thus, when someone says you need to adjust the bias on the power tubes when you start swapping them around, you should probably listen to them. Wrecks are finicky amps and require a lot of futzing to get them dialed in. Lot's of knowledgeable folks have provided salient advice to you, yet it appears that you are ignoring it. If you want your amp to sound the best that it can, listen to the folks here and ask questions. If you don't understand what is being discussed, please ask questions. We are not here to ridicule anyone. We are here to discuss amps and help each other out.
That's a nice collection of amps. Hang around here enough and you will learn to maintain your amps yourself. Pretty cool that you can get all this knowledge and experience for free.

don't listen to us too much. We'll have you modding that bad boy in no time.....
anything worth doing, is worth doing right
Re: New Trainwreck Clip
noted. i appreciate the knowledge guys, really i do! but most of it came with people immediately assuming the it wasnt going to sound right, or whatever the general complaint was. JM biased to where HE thought it should be, i took it to a tech here, he agreed it was correct. he also agreed with JM and another close friend of ken, that it shouldnt need re biasing for el-34/ 6v6 tube swap. I was met with huge suspicion when i announced my amp, dartanion wrote:Steffen,

and it really kinda sucked because no one would know until a few came out that they were great sounding. i dont know what some heard, but i want to hear theirs! cranked , like mine! and hear the "note separation" and the difference between this or that.
really its not that i think people are wrong, its just that i think some came across like complete assholes about it!
i spoke to Mona Fischer on the phone yesterday, that was so cool!
she re affirmed that i made the right decision. the amp is super cool, no bad mouthing is going to change that.
i didnt come here to fight at first, but i got pushed into a corner.

as we speak, i just traded the remedy for a R7 goldtop.
the bad cat will be sold as well, the marshalls stay. always.
mark, you must believe me when i say that the badcat has NOTHING on the express. i am just getting used to playing it, its not that easy. im not used to not switching channels, and just using my volume. none of the other amps i own do this quite like the wreck.
its not that i NEEDED the amp, i just HAD TO HAVE IT!! im glad that i got it.
Re: New Trainwreck Clip
Steffen, all chatter set aside, you do need a re-bias any time you change tubes even if its a like for like swap (ie EL34 being changed to another set of EL34).
No 2 tubes are the same and that's why vendors offer matched sets etc. Please take this constructively and learn how to bias your amp[2]. Not a big deal and will reward you with much nicer tone and longer tube life. Peace!

Re: New Trainwreck Clip
The Rebias Information goes for all your amps not just the trainwreck.
Also keep in mind you have to adjust your bias based on your highest and lowest tubes as not to over bias and red plate your tubes.
I'm going to guess the reason you were told the amp didn't need to be biased is due to the transformer shunt method of bias. Unless you are comfortable working on electronics and understand how the amp works it can destroy test equipment and / or kill you. BECAREFUL!
To give you an idea of how important bias is. I had a Modern Vintage prototype amp on the bench today. The amp's bias was cold by 1.2mA, the amp sounded good- better then most amps as is, but when I brought the amp up to 90% class A the notes bloomed and the mids where clear. Just goes to show ever bit matters.
