Re: Wire, Wire, Wire
I've been looking at the pics from thunderfunk's website found in the history section. all three pics are labelled as Malou (rocket) 1, 2, and 3. but the third picture a gut shot looks like a modified express or liverpool preamp not the rocket. based on the way the Power Resistors are stood up right it would point to being a liverpool or rocket, but no large heatsink bias power resistor. Did he post the wrong gut shot, or does TAG have the wrong preamp in the rocket layout? or is Malou a frankenamp. I also notice the newer perf board. When did Trainwreck stop using vectorboard and flea clips? The chassis looks correct as well as the mounting of the sockets with sheet metal screws no nuts. I'm starting to think as long as you have a few old pots, some vintage tubes, a bud chassis, an output transformer with the right date code, a label maker, punch set, and a logo in a wooden box you have a true trainwreck. The magic is like the dragon scroll in kung fu panda... Nothing. By making it the magic is in the name, you want to believe so then it is. more to digest.

Re: Wire, Wire, Wire
I have tried and built a lot of amps and I must say that everyone of them have some different aspects, even if they are the same circuits. Thats the magic part. Ken talked about this very thing concerning his amps. He was an experimenter of great depth and gained knowledge from each build. That's why he named his amps after women(they're all so different). I wanted to try the express circuit so I built my project trying to stay close to the Fran documentation. Even if you could get the exact parts, no two amps will sound the same anyway. not to be discuraged tho because if you stay close to the schemstics
you will wind up with a darn good amp. Mine may not be a perfect match, but it sure has got me close to what I suspect a real one would sound like. After all it's all about the fun of doing it that matters.

steviea55 well said, and with most all amps, it depends not on just the amp, its the guitar, and speakers and cab all in one. Then the player comes into it. Or maybe the player is first..
