I know our own venerable Mr. Fowler has built both Expresses and Rockets with Mallory 150s and I am pretty sure Cliff Schect used PIO in one of his Expresses. Perhaps they and others will check in.

The Mallory PVC are used in Komet amps and TW amps which are of high quality. The Mallory filter caps is a great choice. I think they may be larger than the ceriatone caps though.

I think your right go with the Sozo caps for a darker sound and experiment with different tone caps when your done.

I use mostly 716P polypropylene. Sometimes I add one polyester to get a little of the smear in the mids. I also like the sound of bypassing a film with a good sounding, small ceramic, which adds some texture to the top.

In my next build, I'm going to try some different combinations of polyester, polystyrene, polypropylene, and copper foil in oil.

I've tried ERO MKT1813, Sozo Premium, Mallory 150 and the 6PS Sprague OD's

I've currently got my wreck loaded with the ERO/Vishay caps and they're a bit lifeless and sterile sounding with a rather unatractive high end.

I'd be interested in trying a few other types

Mine has Jensen and Russian PIO caps in it and it sounds spectacular to me...

OD's were a bit harsh for my taste....had some Hovland musicaps lying around so tried them and found them to be too sterile. Very happily running Sozo's now that they're "broken in".

Jeez this reminds me, I never posted soundclips of my amp. I have quite a few now, I just never put any of them on a website. I think some are on Facebook now, I'll post those in my thread.

I think the PIO caps give the amp a very smooth sound.
