Guys, I have had my Express clone for a couple of months and couldn't be happier. Such that I have sold every other amp I owned.
I am now after something a little cleaner (but with similar touch sensitivity)and perhaps a little less "on the edge" to complement my tone arsenal.
I do tend to favour the Brit kinda sounds, I am thinking perhaps a Rocket maybe a good choice.
I have heard a few clips of the Rocket but they mostly seem to be very over driven.
My question, do you still get the nice el84 chime with the Rocket and does it have much more clean headroom than the Express?
Since owning the Express clone I have played many amps and all fall short. However living downunder, we don't get a lot of variety in terms of boutique gear, and when we do its outrageously priced.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Mick

It is a Vox AC30 Top Boost channel, so that's exactly what you can expect from it when paired with a pair of Blues, Golds, Scumnicos or similar.Gargoyle wrote:do you still get the nice el84 chime with the Rocket and does it have much more clean headroom than the Express?
It has a lot more clean headroom than the Express but then it doesn't get nearly so dirty. Dirty enough though if you set the gain high enough.

About a dozen post down on this (TW discussion) page you'll see a thread I started on my impressions of the Rocket I just built. The Rocket is an impressive amp. Set up right, it will give you clean tones that range from stereotypical Vox "chime" all the way to what I can only describe as a Super Reverb on Steroids.
Even set clean, the sustain is incredible. The notes hang on forever. Touch sensitivity is a personal thing. You probably will not be doing EVH tapping with this amp if that's what you mean by touch sensitivity. On the other hand, every little nuance of a bend comes through, and like I said, the sustain is phenomenal. Also, this amp is plenty loud to gig set clean.
