150v/ 50 amp MOV

Post by Big Jim »

Hello folks, I am getting the last few components together for my Express
build and I have a question.... (hopefully there wont be too many). The layout shows a 150v 50 amp varistor across the power switch to provide spike protection. I am having difficulty locating this part. Does anyone have an alternate value or part# that will work in this application. I'm new to the TW circuit, (and a relative newbie) to building amps. I appreciate any help that might be offered. Jim

Radio Shack sells the 130v varistor if you can't locate anywhere else.

Yeah, 130V is the value you want. Don't know where you saw the 50A number; you won't find one with a surge rating that low. More like 5KA or more. (You also don't really need that part unless you plan on being struck by lightning).

Thanks guys,
I kind of figured it was an optional part. However I do live in the lightning capital of the world (Florida) especially in the summer. I run surge protectors anyway. I'll try Radio Shack locally and see what they have. I appreciate the info. Jim
